Called Rosacea, adult acne usually appears when you are of 25 to 30 years of age. In this age, acne occurs on the back, neck, face, shoulders, and upper arms. Acne that occurs in adulthood may be difficult to treat, particularly if it had been recurring for quite some years. Since adult acne takes time to cure, if it happens to you for the first time in adulthood, immediately go to a dermatologist to get the proper treatment.

Reasons of Adult Acne

Acne at an adult stage can be due to one or more reasons. Acne can reappear even it was treated in adolescence. It can occur for the first time if you did not have it when you were a teenager. There are some medicines - certain steroids and iodine containing medications that can induce acne.

Sometimes a treatment in jaw or chin can put pressure on the face skin which may lead to adult acne. Acne can crop up even by exposure to a particular kind of chemical or herbicide. People dealing in chemicals or herbicides are more prone to acne. Apart from all these reasons, adult acne can be due to hormonal imbalance, menstruation cycle, or change in lifestyle.

Whatever the reasons may be, adult acne can be painful for you and it can add stress to your everyday life. If you have already faced acne in adolescence, and are again facing acne after a few years; you may be having blockages of bacteria and oil. It leads to adult acne. Pregnancy can also cause acne in adult age.

So, it is important to figure out the reason of acne outbreak at adult age, particularly if it occurs for the first time. You must seek proper treatment to get rid of acne.

Herbal Treatment for Adult Acne

Herbal treatment is a better option for getting rid of acne, as there are no side effects of using herbal products. You can take care of your acne by using more than one herbal product at a time. Using pastes of substances such as rosewater, honey, and lavender oil is an excellent way to remove acne in adult age.

For example - take one tablespoon of honey, a full tablespoon of yogurt, some drops of lemon juice, and a few drops of lavender oil. Mix all these ingredients and add some rose water to make a smooth paste. Apply this paste on your face in the form of a thick layer and leave it to dry. Wash the surface with lukewarm water after ten minutes.

If you continue this practice regularly, you will see the difference in a few days. Another method to cure adult acne - take some drops of rose water and a full tablespoon of sandalwood powder. Mix these with some water completely to make a paste. Apply this layer on the affected area and leave it for a few minutes. Wash the surface with fresh clean water.

Apart from herbal treatments, all the medical treatments that are recommended for teenagers are also available for adult acne. However, while looking for a dermatologist, consider a few factors. Look at the reputation and credentials of the doctor that you intend to consult. Know about your doctor’s medical education, certifications, and experience.

When you visit a doctor, ask for any records as to how the patients looked before and after the treatment from that particular doctor. Good doctors keep the photographs and even brochures as testimony to their treatment and expertise to cure adult acne. While discussing your problems, discuss any possible side effects or interactions of the prescribed medicine with other drugs.

Present yourself as a knowledgeable patient. Clarify how long the treatment might take, and ask whether or not you require any surgical or dermabrasion kind of treatment. In addition, consult your diet plan and seek suggestions for any improvements or precautions in your diet.

Evaluate different options and see if you can trust the doctor you are interacting with.

Precautions for Adult Acne

Apart from any treatment that you take for adult acne, you should take following precautions.
