DIAGNOSIS IN AYURVEDA

According to Ayurvedic concept, health is the state in which the structure and function of a particular individual is operating in a systemized way and the individual is in a state of physical, mental and spiritual equilibrium. Disease is a state of disequilibrium of the doshas, dhatus, agnis and malas. According to Ayurveda, all the human diseases are classified under seven categories.

  • Adibalapravritta (Genetic)

It is usually caused due to the defects in the sperm of father or ovum of the mother. When the problem is caused due to the defect in the sperm of father it is known as pitrija and when caused by the defect in ovum it is known as matrija. The defects further leads to various skin diseases, diabetes, asthma, tuberculosis and hemorrhoids. Any kind of addiction, stress, undigested food and abnormal behaviour also affects the reproductive system of the male and female to some extent. Thus, resulting in defective fetus.

  • Janmabalapravritta (congenital)

The unfulfilled desires and nutritional disorders of mother usually result in janmabalapravritta. If during pregnancy the vata dosha becomes imbalanced, the fetus might suffer from various deformities like kyphosis (hunchback), blindness and dwarfism. The increased pitta might cause alopecia and yellowish pigmentation of skin and aggravated kapha might cause albinism.

  • Doshabalapravritta (constitutional)

It is caused by any kind of imbalance in the three doshas and three gunas that further results in disturbance in the diet and behaviour The constitutional disorders are of two types: somatic (Sharirika) & psychic (Manasika).

  • Sanghatabalapravritta (traumatic)

Any trauma causing internal or external experience results in traumatic disease. External trauma is induced by injuries inflicted by sharp instruments and bites of animals or venomous insects.

Stress, overstrain and hard work leads to internal trauma.

  • Klabalapravritta (seasonal)

It is caused by the various changes with the change of season. The failure of the body to adjust itself to the sudden and abnormal climatic changes causes seasonal diseases. The rheumatic disease is the result of extreme cold weather. The extreme hot climates result in sunstroke and fever.

  • Daivabalapravritta (infectious and spiritual)

These are caused due to various natural calamities like earthquakes, lightening, floods and the invisible, malevolent forces of the nature.

These infectious and spiritual diseases can also be contacted through sexual & physical closeness and sharing of food, plates, bed, clothes, towels, cosmetics and other items of private usage with affected persons. These diseases can also be a result of jealousy and negative thoughts occupying ones mind.

  • Swabhavbalapravritta (natural)

This is usually caused by functional, organic and natural changes in the body. According to Ayurveda even the healthiest person suffers from natural weakness and diseases like hunger, thirst, sleep, death and weakness with the age.

In Ayurveda, the physicians assess the symptoms, nature and the root cause of the ailments or diseases. For the proper treatment and preventive measures, the assessment of symptoms, nature and root cause is of utmost importance.
