Home Remedies For Headache and Migraine

Try a cold pack wrapped in a couple layers of towel on your neck. One of my favourites is putting your hands in hot water, which seems to pull the pressure out of your head. It's also a good excuse to do the dishes before your headache gets much worse! :-)

Have someone kneed across your shoulders and the back of the neck. Next, have them press on the base of your skull with their fingers, and slowly release.

Physical exercise can help even after a headache begins. Take a brisk, ten minute walk in the fresh air. Both the air and the exercise will help to get the blood flowing and should help ease the headache pain.

Massage. Various headache home remedies suggest massaging the muscles at the back of the neck, the temples or the forehead. One unusual suggestion is to rub the web of skin between forefinger and thumb with ice. Surprisingly, this odd suggestion is one of the home remedies for headache that is supported by research. ]

Other common herbal home remedies for headaches rely on aromatherapy and inhalation. Among the various herbs and essential oils that are commonly used headache home remedies are lavender, peppermint, sage, chammomile and rose.

Avoid chocolate, aged cheese, red wine, citrus fruits. These foods all contain tyramine or other histamines which have been shown to induce migraines in people with food sensitivities.

Apply a paste of freshly ground clay or freshly ground sandalwood to the forehead, let dry, rub off by hand and wash.
When not suffering from a cold, drink a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water or fill the stomach completely with water.

We Recommend having Brahmi Capsules daily to relieve Stress and Headaches

Cannot Loose Those Extra Pounds Of Weight!!!

Intake of fats and carbohydrates in excess results in obesity. Lack of exercise, physical work also helps in accumulation of fat in the body. In Ayurveda this condition is called medoroga. The fat in the body is primarily drawn from the oils, ghees, and other fatty substances consumed through food and drink. Chocolates, wafers, sweets, remember excessive fat may also impair the function of the vital organs like heart, liver, joints and the kidneys. Obesity may also cause diabetes, asthma, arthritis, high blood pressure.

Walking is the best exercise to begin with.

Honey is an excellent home remedy for obesity.

Make a mixture of two teaspoon of lime juice, one teaspoon of honey , in a glass of water, add some pepper to it & have it regularly.

Drink a glass of boiled water daily after every meal.

Spices like ginger, cinnamon, black pepper etc. are good for loosing weight. Drink ginger tea 2-3 times a day.

Shudh Guggulu is very beneficial for curing this ailment. It helps to regulate the lipid metabolism. Take a teaspoon of guggul with ginger and honey, twice a day.

Two teaspoon of lim e juice added to water also helps in loosing weight. Have it frequently.

Mint is very beneficial in losing weight. Have some salads, vegetables with it.

Trifla , a herbal combination of amalaki, bibbitaki, and haritaki is good for loosing weight.

Fix Your Problem with Food!!

1) Problem: Your knees ache Prescription: A bowl of lightly steamed, mixed vegetables 3 times a day. The more cooked vegetables you eat, the lower your risk of developing arthritis, says Greek study. Researchers analysing the diets and health of 330 people found that those who ate the most cooked vegetables were 75 less likely to develop arthritis and those who consumed the least. One possible reason: Heat destroys the vegetables' cell walls, allowing your body to absorb more of the nutrients that would otherwise pass through your system.

2) Problem: Your gums bleed when you brush your teeth Prescription: An Amla daily. Inflammed gums hurt, and they can also mean you aren't getting enough vitamin C. When you don't get enough C, collagen in your body starts to break down. And that process starts in your gums. Amla has the maximum vitamin C among fruits.

3) Problem: The world is a constant blur Prescription: An egg a day Just opening your eyes can make you susceptible to disease. Basic elements like light and oxygen increase a person's chances of developing vision problems such as cataracts. But eating an egg or half a cup of cooked greens everyday gives you enough lutein to delay the formation of vision problems by year.

4) Problem: Your breath stinks Prescription: Eight glasses of water throughout the day Instead of sucking on breath mints, keep a bottle of water by your side. Bad breath is caused by sulfur compounds in your mouth, and sipping water frequently helps wash away those compound and trigger the production of breath-neautrilizing saliva.

5) Problem: You have high blood pressure Prescription: A glass of orange juice and a glass of milk daily. Increasing the amount of potassium and calcium in your diet will significantly lower your blood pressure, whether it's elevated or not. The minerals protect your kidneys from high levels of sodium, a known hypertension risk. Milk provides the calcium while orange juice is a good source of potassium and vitamin C. According to English researchers, people with the most vitamin C in their bloodstreams are 40 per cent less likely to die of heart disease than people with lower levels of nutrients.

6) Problem: You're starting to go bald Prescription: Lean mutton According to a study from Australia, men who ate lean cuts of red meat were less likely to go bald than those who ate fatty cuts of meat. Another plus: Red meat is an excellent source of zinc. Not getting enough zinc can lead to sudden hair loss.

7) Problem: Your LDL has gone to hell Prescription: An apple a day. Natural antioxidants in apples help reduce your risk of heart disease. Researchers at the University of California had 25 men and women drink a glass of apple juice everyday for 6 weeks. At the end of the trial, it took 20 per cent longer for bad LDL cholesterol in the volunters' blood streams to oxidize and cause trouble. The longer it takes for cholesterol to oxidize, the lower your overall risk of heart disease.

8) Problem: Everyone but you ha a cold Prescription: As much garlic as you can stomach. The second you notice that familiar tickle in your throat, pop a clove of garlic. Garlic has powerful antiviral properties that fight infections. Just a couple of cloves of garlic, mixed into food, will jump-start your immune system and improve your chances of fighting off an illness. If you have to continue the garlic-heavy diet for more than a few days, stick to tomatoey foods or drink a glass of tomato juice with each meal. Acids in the tomatoes will neutralize the odour-causing oils in the garlic.

9) Problem: You've got diarrhoea Prescription: A glass or two of wine Milk of Magnesia should have been the obvious recommendation, but it tastes awful. According to one study, drinking a glass or two of wine is just as effective at controlling diarrhoes as taking a single dose of most over-the-counter remedies because of a compound called bismuth subsalicylate found in high levels in both red and white wine. The substance appears to prevent diarrhoea by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria like Salmonella and E.coli before tehy can make you any sicker.

10) Other Problems you can cure with Food ( But not by eating it) Repair Dry Skin: Try rubbing a small amount of sesame or corn oil over dry skin on your hands or feet, to add moisture and seal it into the area. Treat Poison Ivy: Got Itching? Get milk. Soaking a kerchief in cold milk and then holding it on your skin will dry out the rash of poison ivy and help ease the itch. Soothe a Sunburn: To stop the itch and burn, mix together a bit of dry oatmeal and cool water. Make it slightly slushier than if you were going to eat it, and spread the mixture carefully on your sunburned skin. This will relieve the pain and help reduce swelling.

Benefits of GARLIC!!

Benefits of Garlic!! A more detailed account of what garlic does for various organs in the human body:

If garlic had been created in the laboratory instead of by nature, it would probably be a high-priced prescription drug.

A Common Saying everyone knows..That's just how good it really is...

Garlic is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, and it's been credited with fighting heart disease, lowering blood pressure and helping to fight off colds.

In fact, garlic has been used medicinally for at least 3,000 years, but until relatively recently its benefits were considered little more than folklore. According to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Nov. 28, 1990;264:2614), the therapeutic roles of garlic have been described in more than 1,000 scientific studies.Cooking with garlic

Most of the modern research on garlic has concentrated on its ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well as offering protection against strokes and heart disease.
The following is a more detailed account of what garlic does for various organs in the human body:

1. Protection of the liver from toxic substances: Garlic activates the cells of the liver and thereby protects the liver from toxic substances; it also rejuvenates a tired liver and promotes its normal functioning.

2. Improvement of blood circulation: When allicin is heated in the process of cooking the garlic, a substance called ?ajoene" is formed. This substance has a suppressive effect on thrombi and blood cholesterol, so it is effective for the treatment of atherosclerosis and thrombosis.

3. Regulation of stomach function: Allicin promotes the secretion of gastric juices by stimulating the mucous membranes of the stomach; furthermore, it combines with proteins which can reduce excessive activity of the stomach. In addition, allicin reglates the functioning of the stomach by activating the large intestine and thus cure both constipation and diarrhea.

4. Promotion of insulin secretion: Allicin combines with vitamin B1 (thiamine) to activate the function of the pancreas and thus promote insulin secretion. As a result, garlic is effective in the prevention or the cure of diabetes that is caused by a lack of insulin or by the defective functioning of the pancreas.

5. Normalization of blood circulation: Because it stimulates the brain nerves and controls the workings of the heart at a constant level, garlic stabilizes blood pressure. It is also capable of dissolving cholesterol and fatty substances inside blood vessels and therefore refreshing cells and the blood inside the body.

Today, there is worldwide scientific evidence to support the many health benefits that can be derived from the daily consumption of garlic.

* Extensive tests on humans have concluded that a regular intake of garlic can:
* Lower total cholesterol (but raise the good-type HDL cholesterol)
* Produce more "natural killer" cells in the blood that will tackle infections and tumours
* Lower blood pressure
* Reduce the risk of blood clots (that are responsible for most heart attacks and strokes)
* Destroy infection causing viruses and bacteria

Garlic is classified as both an herb and a vegetable. It can be found in products ranging from ice cream to dry rubs; the versatility of this herb is seemingly endless.

Tips for cooking with garlic:

1. Before cooking, remove the exterior skin of the clove. There are many ways to do this: strike the bulb with the broad side of a kitchen knife, use a rubber garlic rolling tube, soak the garlic in lukewarm water for 30 minutes or dip the cloves into boiling water for 30 seconds.

2. After skinning the garlic, select a cooking method that will result in the appropriate flavor. It can be sautéed to create a nutty, savory taste; poached to create a mild flavor; oven-roasted to bring out the nutty flavor with a caramelized quality; fried to create a crisp exterior; or grilled to create a soft, smoky flavor.

3. Garlic is very sensitive to heat and will burn easily, especially when sautéing. Expose the garlic to heat just until the oil sizzles and then remove it. When cooking garlic with onions, start the onions first. They will take longer to cook.

Benefits of Garlic: Cancer Prevention
Indeed, the first scientific report to study garlic and cancer was performed in the 1950s. Scientists injected allicin, an active ingredient from garlic, into mice suffering from cancer. Mice receiving the injection survived more than 6 months whereas those which did not receive the injection only survived 2 months.

Arthritis and Home Remedies for Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Joint Pains

Arthritis is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world. Yoga for Back Pain Relief!

Yoga for Back Pain Relief!

A good, regular yoga practice will go far in relieving the stress and tension that sometimes cause mild back pain, and in fact, studies have shown that yoga is the number one most effective exercise for relieving back pain. However, not all yoga poses relieve back pain, and some can in fact aggravate existing pain, so it is important to know which poses will be most helpful in relieving back pain. It is best to do these exercises under the supervision of a certified yoga instructor, and if you encounter any problems with these poses, you should consult an expert. Even just one or two sessions with a yoga instructor can help, an instructor will help you with your form and posture during poses. Here are some of the best yoga poses for relieving back pain. Each pose should be held from five to ten seconds, depending upon your level of comfort, and should be done on a mat or other soft, supportive surface.

Corpse: Lie flat on your back in a relaxed position, arms resting at your sides, palms down, and legs lying naturally, with knees turned out slightly. If it hurts your back to have your knees turned outward, do this pose with knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Breathe in and out for a few seconds while allowing any tension to leave the body.

Cat Stretch: Start out on your hands and knees with a flat back. Your hands should be directly under your shoulders with fingers spread. Knees should be directly under the hips. Head is held loosely so that you are looking at the floor between your hands. Inhale, and as you exhale, arch your back toward the ceiling, tuck your chin in to your chest so that you are looking at your navel, and tuck your tailbone underneath. Hold, then release back into your original position.

Wind Releasing Pole: Lie flat on your back as in Corpse pose. As you inhale, bend your knee, place your hands right below the knee, and draw your leg towards your chest. Your left leg should remain flat on the floor. Exhale and bring your forehead up to touch your knee. Inhale, and then as you exhale, return to your original position. Repeat with the other leg.

Sage Twist: Warning for this pose—it involves twisting your back, so you should take particular care not to twist too far or you risk aggravating any existing back pain. This should be a gentle stretch; twist just as far as is comfortable. Sit on the floor with both legs out in front of you. Bend your right knee, lift your right leg over your left, and place your right foot on the floor next to your left knee. Sitting with spine straight, place your left elbow on the right side of your right knee. Bend your left arm so that your left fingertips are touching your right hip, while at the same time, twisting to look over your right shoulder. This is where you need to be careful not to twist too far. Hold for a few seconds, release, and repeat on the opposite side.

Palm Tree: Stand with feet facing forward, arms at your sides, weight distributed evenly on both feet. Raise both arms over your head, interlock your fingers, and turn your hands so that your palms are facing upward. Next, place your palms on your head and turn your head so that you are looking slightly upward. Stretch your arms upwards, and at the same time, come up onto your toes if you can do so without pain. Stretch your entire body upward and hold, if you can. Some people have difficulty balancing during this pose, so just do the stretching parts if you need to.

Fish Pose: Lie on your back with knees bent and arms at your side. Arch your back as far as you comfortably can and raise it off the ground by pushing the floor with your elbows. If you can, tilt your head backwards and rest the crown of your head on the floor. Breathe deeply from the diaphragm and hold pose for one minute if you can.

LOCUST: Lie face down with arms at the side, palms down, and elbows slightly bent with fingers pointing towards the feet. Raise your legs and thighs as high off the ground as possible without causing your back any pain. Hold for one second and repeat up to twelve times. This can be a vigorous exercise so you must take care to strain already injured muscles.

Bending Forward Pose: Stand up straight with feet together and arms hanging loosely along your sides. Breathe in deeply and raise your arms straight above your head. While breathing out, bend forward and touch your toes if you can. If you can’t reach your toes, grab hold of your ankles or calves. To complete the pose, you should touch your head to your knees, but this may be too difficult for many who suffer from lower back pain. Your movements during this pose should be smooth, not jerky.

The complications resulting from the diseases are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and are associated with failure of various organs such as the eyes, kidneys and nerves.

Diabetics are also at a significantly higher risk for coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke and they have a greater likelihood of having hypertension dyslipidemia and obesity.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a serious disorder of the glands, of pancreas to be exact, called Madhumeha in Ayurveda. It is one of the most insidious disorders of the metabolism and, if left undiagnosed, may lead to rapid emaciation and ultimately death.

What are the types of Diabetes? According to Ayurveda Diabetes is of two types:

Diabetes Mellitus- Insulin dependent Juvenile Diabetes (IDDM-Type I) in which the body is unable to produce insulin and Non Insulin Dependent Adult Onset Diabetes (NIDDM-Type II) in which the pancreas produces insulin, but it is insufficient for reducing the blood glucose to normal levels.

What are the common symptoms of Type- 1 Diabetes?

Some of the common symptoms of Type- 1 Diabetes are:

Bitter Melon - Benefits, Medicinal Properties

Bitter Melon is reported to help in the treatment of diabetes and psoriasis. It has also been reported that Bitter Melon may help in the treatment of HIV

Bitter Melon is the English name of Momordica charantia. Bitter Melon is also known by the names Karela and Balsam Pear. Bitter Melon grows in tropical areas, including parts of East Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and South America, where it is used as a food as well as a medicine. It is a green cucumber shaped fruit with gourd-like bumps all over it. It looks like an ugly, light green cucumber. The fruit should be firm, like a cucumber. And it tastes very bitter. Although the seeds, leaves, and vines of Bitter Melon have all been used, the fruit is the safest and most prevalent part of the plant used medicinally. The leaves and fruit have both been used occasionally to make teas and beer, or to season soups in the Western world.

Bitter Melon was traditionally used for a dazzling array of conditions by people in tropical regions. Numerous infections, cancer, leukemia, and diabetes are among the most common conditions it was believed to improve. Bitter Melon is reported to help in the treatment of diabetes and psoriasis. It has also been thought that Bitter Melon may help in the treatment of HIV, but the evidence thus far is too weak to even consider. The ripe fruit of Bitter Melon has been suggested to exhibit some remarkable anti-cancer effects, but there is absolutely no evidence that it can treat cancer. However, preliminary studies do appear to confirm that Bitter Melon may improve blood sugar control in people with adult-onset (type 2) diabetes.

The blood lowering action of the fresh juice of the unripe Bitter Melon has been confirmed in scientific studies in animals and humans. At least three different groups of constituents in Bitter Melon have been reported to have hypoglycemic (blood sugar lowering) or other actions of potential benefit in diabetes mellitus. These include a mixture of steroidal saponins known as charantin, insulin-like peptides, and alkaloids. It is still unclear which of these is most effective or if all three work together. Nonetheless, Bitter Melon preparations have been shown to significantly improve glucose tolerance without increasing blood insulin levels, and to improve fasting blood glucose levels.

Triphala - The best Herb for Colon Cleansing, Natural Laxative

Triphala - The best herb for Colon Cleansing, Natural Laxative. Triphala is one of the most popular herbal remedies which 'cleanse' by promoting bowel movement.

Triphala, formulated by Ayurvedic physicians thousands of years ago and used by literally billions of people since, is considered the most effective and safest laxative and colon tonic by most health care practitioners.
Where other colon formulas are depleting, Triphala is mild, non-habit forming, and a rejuvenative.

A popular folk saying in India says , "No mother? Do not worry so long as you have triphala."

Triphala is considered a 'tridoshic rasayan', having balancing and rejuvenating effects on the three constitutional elements that govern human life: Vata which regulates the nervous system, Pitta which maintains metabolic processes, and Kapha which supports structural integrity.

Triphala is one of the most popular herbal remedies which 'cleanse' by promoting bowel movement. A reason is that one of the most common problems among many individuals is constipation and bowel irregularity. This can lead to poorer general digestion and liver function, less vitality and perhaps even less optimism and an overall poorer outlook and quality of life.

Triphala combines both nutritional as well as blood and liver cleansing (detoxifying) actions. It has little function as a local demulcent but is more of a lubricating source of nourishment and also possesses some bitter anthroquinones which help stimulate bile flow and peristalsis.

Triphala is so effective because its three herbs are potent healers
Amalaki, Emblica Officinalis, one of Ayurveda's greatest rejuvenators and a strong natural anti-oxidant, also helps to boost the immune system. Balances Pitta. Amalaki helps purify toxins from the body, by enhancing food absorption. When your digestion becomes stronger, the food you eat is converted to nutrition rather than staying undigested and producing impurities. The unique thing about Amalaki is that it heightens digestion, yet is not heating. That's why it's traditionally considered one of the best herbs for balancing stomach acid.

Haritaki, Terminalia Chebula, the Tibetan "king of medicine", a classic heart-brain-longevity tonic, is often depicted in the extended palm of the Buddha. Balances Vata. Charaka goes so far as to say that Haritaki is as nourishing and useful for everyone as mother's milk. He mentions that it's a rasayana for the eyes and good for the digestive system. It helps enhance the absorption of nutrients in food.

Bibhitaki, Terminalia Belerica, a powerful rejuvenative that reduces liver and heart disease, also improves the voice, vision and promotes the growth of hair. Balances Kapha. Charaka reports that it is ideal for pacifying both Pitta and Kapha, and that it cleanses the nutritive fluid (Rasa Dhatu), the blood, the muscle and the fat tissue.

The Result:

Feel pure, light and revitalized
Remove toxins, accumulations, gas and distention
Nourish your nervous system, blood and muscle
Increase digestion, assimilation and reduce fat
Detoxify every system in the body
Regulate and vitalize your metabolism

What are the Benefits??

Herbs For Arthritis

Herbs Recommended for Arthritis

The use of herbs is a time-honored approach to strengthening the body and treating disease. The following have been used traditionally to treat rheumatoid arthritis: Shallaki also known as boswellia (Boswellia serrata), comes from a tree that yields gum when its bark is peeled away. In clinical trials, promising results were observed in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic colitis, Crohn's disease.
Researchers found that standardized Boswellia extract significantly reduced swelling and pain and usually reduced morning stiffness for people with rheumatoid arthritis

Ashvagandha (Withania somniferum) is an Asian plant of the potato family. Its roots have long been used to treat "rheumatism," high blood pressure, immune dysfunctions, erection problems and also to ease inflammation. Because of all this, it's sometimes called the "Indian ginseng."

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) may be among the best-studied of the four. Research suggests ginger root inhibits production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are involved in pain and inflammation. In an uncontrolled 1992 Danish study, 56 patients who had either RA, OA or muscular discomfort took powdered ginger.

All of those with musculoskeletal pain and three-fourths of those with OA or RA reported varying degrees of pain relief and no side effects, even among those who took the ginger for more than two years

Herbal oils are applied to the arthritis to loosen stiff joints, restore mobility, remove pain, inflammation or swelling, nourish tissues and relieve pain.
