Home Remedies for Cold Sores – Simple and Effective

Cold sores also called fever blisters are painful blisters that usually occur on the face, such as the lips or nostrils caused by herpes simplex virus. Cold sores are transferable. They are often mistaken for canker sores – a non infectious mouth ulcer. Cold sores mostly occur on the skin adjoining to mouth, mostly on the lips. Occasionally they may occur on chin, nostrils, fingers or genitals. Medical expression for cold sores is recurrent herpes labialis.

Cold sores may indicate a shortage in calcium. Cold sores can be uncomfortable, ugly and embarrassing for sufferers and they also bears the risk of spreading the herpes virus to another parts of the body or to other people. Cold sores may arise during feverish illnesses such as colds, coughs, and 'flu.


Home Remedies for Cold Sores:


1) Apply ice for five to ten minutes each hour at the beginning of the cold sores. This will avoid their further expansion.

2) Apply a tea bag for five to ten minutes each hour at the beginning of the cold sores because the tannic acid in the tea has antiviral properties. This will avoid their further development of sores.

3) Press a humid tea bag on the cold sore for 20-30 minutes. Within five days the sores will vanish. This is effective Home Remedy for Cold Sores

4) Lemon balm extract may decrease cold sore symptoms and speed up the healing.

5) Apply paste of Neem leaves on the affected parts.

6) Dab DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) on the sores two times daily with your fingers or a cotton ball. It stops the development of the virus by penetrating right to the center of the herpes infection.
