Foods that Lower High Blood Pressure

Bad eating habits contribute significantly to unhealthily high blood pressure levels, even in middle age, when blood pressure levels typically rise as part of the ageing process.

Hypertension is best checked by a thorough understanding of the causes of high blood pressure (hypertension), taking a balanced diet, doing regular exercise and ensure proper medical attention for effectively controlling blood pressure whenever blood pressure symptoms occur.

Certain cereals that are high in fiber and low in sugar can help you lower your blood pressure. Fruits and vegetables can also help control your hypertension. These include oranges, greens, potatoes, beans, okra, cabbage etc. Some fruits will supply your body with additional vitamin C, which is also useful in assisting with lowering your blood pressure.

Foods that lower blood pressure have to be low in sodium content. Some sea foods that have high amounts of salt should be avoided. Try and user lesser salt in the food you prepare.

Spinach, unsalted sunflower seeds, beans (black, white, navy, lima, pinto, kidney) are all very rich in magnesium, which is a chief ingredient for lessening and keeping healthy blood pressure levels. All these food items also give ample potassium, a key nutrient for fighting against high blood pressure.

Fruits and vegetables have certain remarkable properties that have a magical effect on blood pressure. Research studies show that switching to a vegetarian diet lowers blood pressure. Fruits are concentrated with potassium, Vitamin C and loads of soluble fibre, all of which contribute to lowering blood pressure.

Potassium and calcium play an important role in regulating high blood pressure. Bananas, beans, tofu and potatoes are all rich sources of potassium. One must, however, avoid boiling potassium rich food, as potassium leaches out into the water during cooking.

A high-fiber diet is a good high blood pressure diet that has been shown to be effective in preventing and treating many forms of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension. The types of dietary fiber is important. Of the greatest benefit to hypertension are the water soluble gel-forming fibers such as oat bran, apple pectin, psyllium seeds, and guar gum.
