The hand wash is the most effective and simplest way to keep from getting rhinovirus infection. Don’t touch your nose or eyes very frequently and without any reason. One should sneeze or cough always into the facial tissue or handkerchief. This will prevent the cold to get spread to another. One should avoid being in contact with a person suffering from the cold if possible.
As the rhinoviruses survive up to three hours outside the nasal passages on skin and inanimate objects, cleaning them with disinfectant might help preventing the spread of infections.
It is always good to take vitamins like vitamin C, which builds up your immune system. On the other hand, stop hard working for some days till you get rid of the cold. If possible, stay warm and dry. Drink lukewarm water which is boiled and partially cooled.
Try to avoid direct air whether it is from fan, air-conditioner or atmospheric. Try to avoid curds, cold drinks, ice creams and heavy food. This is best prevented if one performs “pranayama” (the breathing exercise). Don’t go for contaminated food or water. Prevent chest, nose and mouth away from the cold. Cover yourself while sleeping avoiding direct flow of an air. Avoid bread, meats, non-vegetarian diet during the attack of cold.
