There are as many as 200 viruses exist on the planet. Any of them can create cold. The age group suffer a lot is children. However adults do get affected by comparatively less. Seasonal effect has greater effect on an individual producing this trouble. One survey shows 22 million school days are lost annually in the United States itself due to common cold.

Children have about five to eight colds a year. The reason is they are often in close contacts in schools and daycare centers. Seasonal changes in relation to the humidity may also affect the prevalence of the cold. The cold causing viruses survive better when there is low humid in the weather. Cold weather also make the inside lining of nose drier and so more vulnerable for viral infections.

Many a times this could be considered as normal but if the infection is bacterial, this ends up in hazardous situation. Hence it is always advisable not to ignore this condition and pay an attention.

Ayurveda believes this as pratishyaya (say – pra tee sh ya ya ). This is nothing but increased Kapha Dosha along with some Vata and Pitta Dosha.
