Garlic Benefits & Odourless Supplements

Garlic Supplements

Garlic

Elevated cholesterol level, hypertension and risk of platelet aggression are the major causes of heart diseases and stroke. Garlic or Alliuam sativum is used in traditional medicines, worldwide, as a hypocholesterolemic, antihypertensive and anticoagulant for preventing coronary artery diseases. The medicinal properties of the herb have been demonstrated in a large number of experimental and clinical studies.

Although we are aware of the benefits of garlic, its strong odor prevents us from consuming the beneficial herb. Lasuna is an odorless garlic supplement that offers the benefit of garlic without producing the pungent breath.

What causes coronary disease?

Excess cholesterol circulating in the bloodstream, increases the risk of atherosclerosis, which eventually leads to coronary diseases. The harmful fats accumulate in the blood vessels, eventually hardening to form plaques. The plagues narrow the coronary artery and reduce blood supply to the heart. Reduction in blood flow damages the heart muscles. Heart attack occurs when the blood supply to a specific portion of the heart ceases completely.

Heart diseases caused by high blood pressure are known as hypertensive heart diseases. Untreated hypertension increases the risk of ischemic heart disease or coronary artery disease and heart failure. When the blood pressure is higher than normal, the heart is forced to pump harder to sustain the blood flow throughout the body. If the high blood pressure persists for a prolonged period, the muscles of the heart would gradually thicken, eventually leading to congestive heart failure. The thick muscles of the heart now require more oxygen to sustain its pumping activities. In people with atherosclerosis, elevated blood pressure level would worsen the function of the heart. If left untreated, hypertensive heart disease leads to death.

Coronary thrombosis or formation of a blood clot in a coronary artery narrows the artery and increases the risk of heart attack. It usually occurs at the site of a plaque that had ruptured. Coronary thrombosis might be prevented with anticoagulants that prevent blood clots by inhibiting platelet aggression.

Why garlic is good for the heart?

Garlic prevents cardiac problems by addressing the major causes that trigger coronary artery disease.

Helps to reduce cholesterol level and prevent atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis or plaque build up in the coronary arteries is one of the major causes of coronary artery disease. Bioactive compounds present in fresh, boiled, cooked and commercial garlic could lower the risk of atherosclerosis by lowering the low-density lipoprotein, oxidized low-density lipoprotein and the total cholesterol levels. Studies suggest that optimal doses of garlic could enhance the atherosclerosis preventing effect of diets. (Gorinstein S, Jastrzbeski Z, Namiesnik J, Leontowicz H, Leontowicz M, Trakhtenberg S. “The atherosclerotic heart disease and protecting properties of garlic: contemporary data.” Mol Nutr Food Res. 2007 Nov;51(11):1365-81). In a randomized, double blind placebo controlled trial, researchers found that in men with hypercholesterolemia or abnormally high total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, garlic could cause nearly 7 percent reduction in the total cholesterol level and the LDL cholesterol level might be lowered by nearly 10 percent. Scientists speculate that water-soluble sulfur compounds present in garlic are especially effective in inhibiting synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. (Yeh YY, Liu L. “Cholesterol-lowering effect of garlic extracts and organosulfur compounds: human and animal studies.” J Nutr. 2001 Mar;131(3s):989S-93S).

Helps to improve cardiac function

Garlic is widely used in alternative and complementary medicines for supporting/controlling cardiovascular diseases. The traditional belief in the health benefits of garlic has been proved in a number of experimental studies and clinical trials. Studies suggest that daily consumption of garlic helps to improve the cardiac function and helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases by normalizing the plasma lipids, lowering the low-density lipoprotein level, reducing the high blood pressure level and preventing abnormal aggregation of platelets. By stimulating nitric oxide synthesis in the endothelial cells, garlic helps to relax the blood vessels, thereby lowering the blood pressure level. The common culinary herb helps to prevent chronic low-grade inflammation, a prominent underlying cause of heart diseases. It could obstruct the activities of the pro-inflammatory proteins and enzymes. Daily garlic intake might slow down the progression of coronary calcification, which leads to hardening of the coronary arteries. ( Ginter E, Simko V. “Garlic (Allium sativum L.) and cardiovascular diseases.” Bratisl Lek Listy. 2010;111(8):452-6).

Helps to prevent cardiomyopathy in diabetics

Untreated diabetes might weaken the heart muscles and might alter the structure of the heart muscles, leading to a condition, known as cardiomyopathy. The diseased heart fails to pump enough blood throughout the body. Cardiomyopathy induced by diabetes might be managed with garlic supplements. (Ou HC, Tzang BS, Chang MH, Liu CT, Liu HW, Lii CK, Bau DT, Chao PM, Kuo WW. “Cardiac contractile dysfunction and apoptosis in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats are ameliorated by garlic oil.” J Agric Food Chem. 2010 Oct 13;58(19):10347-55).

Helps to reduce homocysteine level

Homocysteine is a type of amino acid. It is produced as a byproduct of animal protein metabolism. People diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases usually have elevated levels of homocysteine in the blood. Studies suggest that garlic might help to lower the homocysteine level. (Yeh YY, Yeh SM. “Homocysteine-lowering action is another potential cardiovascular protective factor of aged garlic extract.” J Nutr. 2006 Mar;136(3 Suppl):745S-749S).

Helps to prevent age related changes in the aorta

Stiffening of the aorta, the main coronary artery that supplies blood to the heart, is a natural part of the aging process. In a study, researchers found that long-term consumption of garlic might help to restore the natural elasticity of the aorta and delay stiffening of the coronary artery. (Breithaupt-Grogler K, Ling M, Boudoulas H, Belz GG. “Protective effect of chronic garlic intake on elastic properties of aorta in the elderly.” Circulation. 1997 Oct 21;96(8):2649-55).

Helps to reduce blood pressure

Untreated hypertension increases the risk of coronary heart disease and heart failure. Your blood pressure level could be kept under control by consuming garlic daily. Garlic could decrease both the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure levels in people with hypertension. (Ried K, Frank OR, Stocks NP, Fakler P, Sullivan T. “Effect of garlic on blood pressure: a systematic review and meta-analysis.” BMC Cardiovasc Discord. 2008 Jun 16;8:13).

Dosage: Each Lasuna capsule contains high quality Allium satvium or garlic extract. To realize the benefits of garlic, you can take one to two Lasuna capsules, twice a day, after meals. The garlic supplement helps to improve the effectiveness of cardioprotective herbal preparations. It is advisable to take the supplement along with Dilguard or Arjuna. Tips to prevent coronary disease

1. Along with the garlic supplement, you should follow a heart-healthy diet and adhere to a workout schedule to minimize the risk of heart problems. Current researches suggest that coronary artery diseases are largely triggered by unhealthy lifestyle. A fat and calorie dense diet and a sedentary lifestyle increase the risk of developing high cholesterol and high blood pressure, which eventually damage the heart.

2. Although a fatty diet harms the coronary arteries, not all types of fats are bad for the heart. To keep your heart in good health, you should bring down the low-density lipoprotein and triglycerides and increase the level of high-density lipoprotein or the good cholesterol. Saturated fats tend to push up the bad lipids in the blood, whereas mono and polyunsaturated fats help to boost the healthy cholesterol level in the body. The healthy cholesterols help to flush out the bad cholesterols from the body. Monounsaturated fats are present in nuts such as almonds, hazelnuts, cashew, walnut, macadamia nuts and pecans. Canola oil, olive oil and mustard oil are rich sources of monounsaturated fats. Omega-3 fatty acids are extremely beneficial for the cardiovascular system. Fish oil and seafood are the best sources of these healthy fats. These fats are also present in walnuts, hazelnuts, flaxseed oil, canola oil, soybean and green leafy vegetables. Enriching your meals with vitamin E rich foods might decrease the risk of coronary artery disease. (Kushi LH, Folsom AR, Prineas RJ, Mink PJ, Wu Y, Bostick RM. “Dietary antioxidant vitamins and death from coronary heart disease in postmenopausal women.” N Eng J Med. 1996;334:1156-62).

3. Soluble fibers present in fruits, vegetables and whole grain products facilitate excretion of cholesterol. Oatmeal and oat bran are especially beneficial for reducing the cholesterol level. (Ripsin CM, Keenan JM, Jacobs DR Jr, Elmer PJ, Welch RR, Van Horn El. “Oat products and lipid lowering. A meta-analysis.” JAMA. 1992; 267:3317-25).

4. Increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables helps to strengthen the antioxidant defense system. Increase in antioxidants helps to inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol and reduces the risk of plaque formation in the coronary artery. Consume five to seven servings of vegetables and fruits daily. Legumes and soy products are not only sources of healthy proteins but they can help to maintain the healthy lipid balance in the blood. (Jenkins DJ, Wong GS, Patten R, Bird J, Hall M, Buckley GC. “Leguminous seeds in the dietary management of hyperlipidemia.” Am J Clin Nutr. 1983;38:567-73).

5. Regular exercise strengthens the heart muscles and reduces the blood pressure. Thirty minutes of physical activities, four to six times a week, is good for the heart.

Here is what our Garlic benefited customers say:

“I am 55 and had significantly elevated levels of cholesterols few months back. However, I was prescribed with some drugs but then I wanted to go for some herbal products. I could find Morpheme Garlic and started taking it regularly. My cholesterol levels drastically came down and just few days back, my doctor reduced those anti-cholesterol drugs that he had prescribed. He is expecting to reduce them further in coming months. Thanks to Garlic” – John LS, Detroit

“I am a doctor and I have keen interest learning about herbs since beginning of my medical career. I know that there are lots of researches on garlic on cholesterol and lipid profiles. I have always recommended taking raw garlic pods to my patients with high cholesterol and lipid levels but they always skip doing it because of the strong odor. Thanks to Morpheme Garlic that is odorless capsules and even after consuming 3-4 capsules, my patients complain nothing! Moreover, the benefits of garlic have remained same. My patients and I, both are happy!” – Dr. Franklyn Roderick, Texas

“I have been taking Morpheme Garlic since couple of months. I do not suffer from any major health ailments (touchwood!!) but I take it for rejuvenation and I know that it is best aphrodisiac too! For me Kohinoor Gold and Garlic makes winning combination” – Anonymous, Melbourne

Health Benefits of Garlic / Clinical Studies:

A study by Silagy and Neil (1994) showed that that garlic supplements have an important part to play in the treatment of high cholesterol. Overall, a 12% reduction in total cholesterol was shown over a placebo and that this reduction was normally evident after only 4 weeks treatment and was considered likely to persist for as long as the study was in progress. The largest study so far was conducted in Germany where 261 patients from 30 general practices were given either garlic powder tablets or a placebo. After a 12 week treatment period mean serum cholesterol levels dropped by 12% in the garlic treated group and triglycerides dropped by 17% compared to the placebo group. Studies (Dr D Sooranna, Ms J Hirani and Dr I Das, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, UK) reveal that garlic may help to boost the birth-weight of babies destined to be too small. They concluded that taking standardised garlic tablets (for further details please contact us) throughout pregnancy may decrease the chances of these types of complictions at birth. Experiments by the research team showed that adding extracts of garlic to cells from the placenta of women likely to suffer from these conditions was able to quickly stimulate growth. Furthermore, the activity of key enzemes that are reduced in the abnormal pregnancies were significantly increased when garlic was added.

Whooping Cough:

Garlic is an excellent remedy for whooping cough. Syrup of garlic Should be given in doses of five drops to a teaspoonful two or three times a day in this condition. It should be given more often if the coughing spells are frequent and violent.

Antibacterial actions of Garlic:

Garlic's compounds also have antibacterial and antifungal properties. Garlic fights all sorts of infections, including those of the lung, sinus, bladder, and vagina, as well as colds and flu. Garlic is a practical remedy used both internally and externally to treat fungal and bacterial skin infection.

Circulatory effects:

More than 250 publications have shown that garlic supports the cardiovascular system. It may lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood, inhibit platelet stickiness (aggregation), and increase fibrinolysis-which results in a slowing of blood coagulation. It is mildly antihypertensive and has antioxidant activity.

Antimicrobial effects:

Garlic has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal activity' It may work against some intestinal parasites. Garlic appears to have roughly 1 % the strength of penicillin against certain types of bacteria. This means it is not a substitute for antibiotics, but it can be considered as a support against some bacterial infections. Candida albicans growth is inhibited by garlic, and garlic has shown long-term benefit for recurrent yeast infections.

Anti-hypertensive effects:

Garlic is regarded as one of the most effective remedies to lower blood pressure. The pressure and tension are reduced because it has the power to ease the spasm of the small arteries. It also slows the pulse and modifies the heart rhythm, besides relieving the symptoms of dizziness, shortness of breath and the formation of gas within the digestive track. As these days garlic capsules are available with the chemist shops, the average dosage of two to three capsules a day to be given to make a dent in the blood pressure.

Effects on Digestive system:

Garlic is one of the most beneficial foods for the digestive system. It exercises a beneficial effect on the lymph, aids in elimination of noxious waste matter in the body. It stimulates peristaltic action and the secretion of the digestive juices. Crushed cloves of garlic may be infused in water or milk and taken for all types of disorders of the digestion. It has an antiseptic effect and is an excellent remedy for infectious diseases and inflammations of the stomach and intestine. The oil of garlic is absorbed into the alimentary tract and is eliminated partly through the urine.

Garlic produces very marked effects on the intestine. It is an excellent agent as a worm expeller. It has also a soothing effect on the various forms of diarrhea. Problems such as colitis, dysentery and many other intestinal upsets can be successfully treated with fresh garlic or garlic capsules. One garlic capsule taken three times a day is usually sufficient to correct mild cases of diarrhea or dysentery. For more persistent cases, up to six capsules a day can be taken. Garlic has the ability to destroy harmful bacteria in the intestines without affecting the beneficial organisms which aid digestion.

Effects on various skin disorders:

Garlic has also been used successfully for a variety of skin disorders Pimples disappear without scar when rubbed with raw garlic several times a day. Even very persistent form of acne, suffered by some adults, has also been healed with garlic. The external use of garlic helps to clear the skin of spots and pimple, and boils. The process is further helped by taking the garlic orally also, to purify the blood-steam so as to secure a long term clearance of the skin. A regular course of three garlic capsules per day should help to clear minor skin infections quickly.

Anti-cancerous actions of Garlic:

Human studies show that eating garlic regularly reduces the risk of esophageal, stomach, and colon cancer. This is partly due to garlic's ability to reduce the formation of carcinogenic compounds. Animal and test tube studies also show that garlic, and its sulfur compounds, inhibit the growth of different types of cancer-especially breast and skin tumors.

More on Benefits of Garlic:

Garlic benefits have been touted for years by nutritionists and doctors alike. In addition to its ability to spice up many culinary dishes, it can offer numerous benefits to your health and well-being.

If garlic had been created in the laboratory instead of by nature, it would probably be a high-priced prescription drug.

That's just how good it really is.

Medical studies have shown that garlic - the aromatic seasoning people either love or hate - can lower cholesterol, prevent dangerous blood clots, reduce blood pressure, prevent cancer, and protect against bacterial and fungal infections.

So how should you take garlic? Most scientific studies have, for consistency, used a standardized garlic extract in capsule or liquid form. However, just about any form offers some benefits. If you enjoy the taste of garlic, use it liberally in your food. If the taste and odor turn you off, opt for deodorized garlic capsules. Either way, garlic is good for your health.

Tips for cooking with Garlic:

1. Before cooking, remove the exterior skin of the clove. There are many ways to do this: strike the bulb with the broad side of a kitchen knife, use a rubber garlic rolling tube, soak the garlic in lukewarm water for 30 minutes or dip the cloves into boiling water for 30 seconds.

2. After skinning the garlic, select a cooking method that will result in the appropriate flavor. It can be sautéed to create a nutty, savory taste; poached to create a mild flavor; oven-roasted to bring out the nutty flavor with a caramelized quality; fried to create a crisp exterior; or grilled to create a soft, smoky flavor.

3. Garlic is very sensitive to heat and will burn easily, especially when sautéing. Expose the garlic to heat just until the oil sizzles and then remove it. When cooking garlic with onions, start the onions first. They will take longer to cook.

Some More Health Benefits of Garlic and Uses:

One clove a day--have been shown to improve digestion and reduce intestinal bacterial infection, even dysentery. In a Chinese study, drinking a daily tea made by soaking three crushed cloves in two cups of water cured 80 percent of patients with diarrhea in a week. Garlic also helps knock out intestinal worms and other parasites.

Garlic's clot-reducing capability takes about three to four hours to peak and remains effective about a day, making garlic a reasonable substitute for taking aspirin to prevent clotting, provided your healthcare practitioner approves.

Garlic also stimulates the immune system by increasing activity of several types of immune cells: macrophages, helper T-cells, killer T-cells and interleukin. It even protects against genetic changes in DNA.

Dining regularly on garlic or onion may even reduce the chances of developing cancer, particularly in the digestive tract
