One small bubble gives way to creating a bigger bubble. That bubble gives way to an even bigger bubble. An attempt at
the biggest gum bubble of all results in a POP! What comes next is the need to find effective gum removers for hair. Ayurveda believes that a person’s hair condition is a reflection of the physical state of being. Poor hair quality is representation of poor health. This also holds true for hair with chewing gum.
On the surface, gum is composed of a water-insoluble ingredient known as a gum base and water soluble ingredients of sweeteners, flavoring, and occasionally food coloring. The water-insoluble gum base is melted at a temperature of 115 degrees Celsius until it reaches the consistency of maple syrup. The base then goes through a series of filtering procedures. After this, the base goes into a mixing vat where other ingredients such as powdered sugar, corn syrup and glucose may be added. The mixture is then poured onto belts where it cools. Rolling and cutting is then performed turning the base into chunks. These chunks are set aside for a period of up to 48 hours.
The chunks receive an undercoating that allows for binding with other materials and immersed in liquid sugar. Here the chunks are coated with a glazing agent of wax. This wax usually comes from insects or beeswax. The common form of sweetener for gum is artificial in nature. This includes aspartame and sucralose. These chemical substances can be harmful to the body. Therefore most brands of chewing gum available on today’s market are not a viable part of a nutritional diet.
When chewing gum becomes lodged in hair, there are a number of gum removers available as treatment. One natural treatment is the use of ice cubes as a gum remover. Here, several ice cubes are placed into a plastic bag. This plastic bag is then held on the area of the head where there is gum. After several minutes, the ice cubes act as a freezing agent on the hair. Once this happens, the plastic ice bag can be lifted and the area of gum can be peeled off of the hair surface.
Another natural gum remover treatment is the use of egg whites. With this treatment, egg whites are placed on the area of hair with the gum. The egg whites are then massaged into the scalp until the gum can be easily
removed. Chocolate also works as a natural gum remover. Counteracting the gum’s sticky residue, the chocolate can be melted and massaged into the scalp. This allows for easy removal of the substance from the hair.
One of the most popular natural gum removers is a simple spoonful of peanut butter. This can be gently massaged into the scalp until the gum is saturated with the substance. Once this has occurred, the peanut butter allows for the gum to be removed from the hair. This is completed without damaging any surrounding hair follicles. Salad oil can be utilized in place of peanut butter.
Ayurveda believes that a simple regiment of external and preventative hair care is not sufficient in maintaining healthy hair. A concept of Ahara-Vihar, diet and lifestyle, is employed. Here there is an understanding that factors such as illness, vitamin deficiencies and poor nutritional health have a dramatic effect on the health of hair. A neglect of any one of these factors can result in hair health issues that include dandruff and pre mature graying. Therefore, it is vital that a person maintain a nutritional diet that is rich in hair fortifying nutrients.
Ayurveda adheres to a nutritional diet of whole grain, natural foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. These foods include dark leafy greens, broccoli, carrots and white daikon radish vegetable assortments. Cumin and tumeric are two recommended spices. This aids the transportation of nutrients into the hair cells and tissue. Fresh fruits and a variety of dairy products such as whole milk and cheese should comprise a portion of the diet as well. Ayurveda stresses the importance of having fresh coconut in a diet. Coconut is an excellent source of dietary component that aids in correcting the Pitta dosha, heat principle of the body, imbalances.
Stress management plays a key role in the health of hair. When a person lives in a constant state of stress, there is no room for the release of tension. The end result is secretion build ups in the hair that affect the appearance of the hair. In addition, poor sleep habits can also affect the appearance of hair. Ayurveda views a holistic approach to hair health as a vital part of whole body health. That is why there is more to hair care regiment than watching what is placed inside the mouth and onto the hair surface.
