At one time or another, every person has come across a section of undesired body hair. This can be in typical places such as

the legs or underarms. It can also be in more distinct places such as the chin, back and shoulders. In either case, the end result is the same – quick removal of the unwanted hair. There are an unlimited number of hair removal processes available. The key is finding the right one for the right person.

One of the most convenient methods of hair removal is waxing. Here, the unwanted hair is removed from the root. This is accomplished by spreading a wax substance over the desired area of the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then placed down over the waxed area. In one quick movement, the cloth or paper strip is removed from the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth. In this quick motion, the wax is removed along with any dead skin cells and the unwanted hair. Waxing removes hair for a period of three to eight weeks.

Typical wax substances are made of a paraffin or beeswax, fats, oils or other chemical resins. These substances help to give the wax a better adhesion to the skin. Use of these types of waxes often results in

skin irritation and red bumps in the area that has been waxed. A healthier approach to this type of hair removal would be selecting a natural, organic waxing remover. Natural, organic waxes are made of herbs, water, plant derived ingredients and essential fragrant oils. These ingredients moisturize the dry, irritated skin left behind from the waxing process. Natural made waxing leaves the skin soft, smooth and refreshed.

Another common hair removal method is body sugaring or sugaring for short. The basic concept behind this method is that hair growth lessens with each application. As the hair grows back, it is softer and does not appear to be stubbly as is the case with other removal methods. The sugary substance used does not adhere to the skin itself. Rather only to the area of hair that is to be removed. Therefore, sugaring is often viewed as one of the less painful options for hair removal.

A basic sugaring mixture is composed of sugar, water and lemon juice. Honey and molasses can also be used if desired. The mixture is then formed into a paste commonly referred to as a sugar ball. This paste is then applied to the desired area using a tongue depressor, Popsicle stick or other flat object. After placing a cloth or paper strip over the area, the sugar substance is pulled up in the opposite direction of the hair growth. As a result, only the desired hair is removed and skin cells are left intact.

Electrolysis is a method of hair removal that provides the option of removing individual hairs from unwanted areas of the face and body. With this method, a needle is inserted into the area of undesired hair. The needle goes into the base of the hair follicle and not into the skin. Upon insertion, electric pulses are sent through the hair follicle. This results in permanent deadening of the follicle for future hair growth. Once deadened, the hair follicle is removed with tweezers or forceps, whichever is preferred.

As opposed to other hair removal methods, electrolysis can not be completed in just one application. The typical treatment calls for several appointments with a certified electrologist. Typical side effects include pain, swelling or redness in the area where treatment was received. The level of pain involved depends upon the person receiving the treatment. Factors such as individual pain tolerance, coarseness of hair being removed and sensitivity of the removal area are all key ingredients.

One of the more effective methods of hair removal is a laser treatment. A highly concentrated beam of light is used to heat up the hair follicle of the unwanted area. This action impairs any future growth from occurring. A number of hair follicles can be treated at one time. The deadening of the follicles is achieved without providing any damage to tissues or skin.

There are three distinct components to human hair: the bulb that contains the hair follicle, the hair follicle itself and the shaft of the hair. Hair removal through laser treatment requires the deadening of the bulb and the shaft which resides inside the skin. Therefore, the light concentration of laser treatment deadens the hair follicle at the base. This can only occur when the hair follicle is in the growth stage of the hair cycle. For this reason, laser treatments need to be completed over a course of several or more visits.

There is at the very least several reasons why a person would seek out various hair removal treatments. One of which is vanity. Millions of dollars are spent each year on cosmetic hair removing treatments. Out of this select group of people, some do seek treatment for medical reasons. Whether for cosmetic or medical reasoning, a person’s self esteem and self worth can be improved by the removal of unwanted hair. When a person is satisfied with the outside appearance, the satisfaction often starts to grow on the inside resulting in a well balanced life.
