Causes And Treatment Of A Fatty Liver

Steatosis or a fatty liver develops as a result of fat deposits building up in the liver. The liver’s purpose is to metabolize the fat in the body to maintain good health. If the liver malfunctions, it is unable to metabolize fat and consequently the fat gets accumulated in the organ, leading to a fatty liver. Other causes of fatty liver include diabetes, obesity and excessive consumption of alcohol.

Generally, a fatty liver does not present symptoms and it is identified through testing instead.  If diabetes is the cause, then you must strictly check and control the sugar levels.

On the other hand, if obesity is the underlying cause of the condition, you must have strict control over your diet and drinks. A fatty liver should not be left untreated for fear that the condition could worsen and lead to cirrhosis, which can cause death.

Leading a healthy lifestyle in conjunction with a controlled diet can certainly help you return the level to its healthy state.  As already stated, the consumption of alcohol in any form can injure the liver, so you have to give up alcohol altogether. A change in diet is necessary in order to gain control over this serious condition.

Switch over to a healthy, nutritious diet. Increase your intake of fresh, green and leafy vegetables. Consume more seasonal fruits and fresh juices.  Above all, drink more water, at least six to eight glasses every day. Water is the healthiest drink available to drink in nature and is helpful in washing away the toxins present in your body. All these measures will go a long way to restoring your liver to a healthier state.

In addition to the above options, you should get used to eating artichoke, milk thistle, liquorice and dandelion which can cleanse the system and thus contribute to rebuilding the liver and returning it to a healthier state.

Liquorice should be used with caution; excessive consumption may lead to blood pressure problems. Artichokes are helpful in strengthening the walls of the liver and increasing the bile levels.

The consumption of artichokes helps to break down the fat in the liver. Similarly, the herb helianthus is very conducive to the treatment of liver complications. It rejuvenates the liver and helps restore normal function.

Adding rosemary to your regular meals is helpful in treating a fatty liver. The presence of active chemicals like rosemarinic acid and caffeic acid stimulate the liver function and show great success in treating a fatty liver.
