Causes and Treatment of Acne

Acne is a chronic skin condition causing blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and cysts. It is caused by overactive sebaceous glands, clogged follicles and stopped-up pores. Once thought to be primarily a “teenage” ailment, it now strikes adults as well as adolescents. Teens are emotionally affected more than adults because they are so concerned about popularity. Both age groups can utilize the same remedies but should remember that aged, mature skin is much more prone to scarring than younger skin.

Causes of Acne

Changing hormones, Make-up and cosmetic products containing oil, certain medications (steroids or estrogen-containing drugs), naturally oily or “Combination” type skin (oily only in the T-zone), Chronic constipation and Digestive ailments

Symptoms

Cysts (as in cystic acne), Pimples (including whiteheads and blackheads), Pustules and papules, Red, irritated, and inflamed skin, Scarring of skin and Crusting around the skin eruptions themselves

Natural Remedies

Vitamin A (50,000 units used 3 times per day), Vitamin E (400 mg used 1 time per day), Zinc (50 mg used 3 times per day), Lemon juice applied directly to skin, Almond paste (mixed with honey) applied with heated cloth to face, Cucumber applied directly to face is very soothing to inflamed skin, Raw garlic applied to skin several times per day and Garlic tablets taken as directed on label

Orange peel used with water directly on inflamed skin, Mint juice applied directly to freshly washed face, Fenugreek paste applied at bedtime and Egg yolk mask removes excess oil

Dietary Remedies

Week one – Patient should eat fresh fruits only for 7 straight days, drinking only water (plain or flavored with lemon)

Week two – Patient should keep diet well-balanced, adding various raw vegetables, seeds, nuts, brown rice, and whole grains to the fruit diet

As need arises, patient should revert back to the all fruit diet for periods of 2 to 3 days. Some foods, such as meat, coffee, sugar, cola drinks, and other processed products should be avoided as much as possible.
