Dryness In The Eyes

Eyes are one of the most sensitive organs in the human body. Body has special ways to protect eyes. The tear glands look after the eyes. They provide moisture and lubrication to the eyes. Tear glands are located near the eyes.

They produce tears. Tears are a mixture of water, oils, mucus and antibodies and special proteins. Water provides moisture to the eye. Oils lubricate the eyes. Mucus help tears to reach equally on the eyes. Antibodies and special proteins fight with disease causing foreign bodies.

If there is any imbalance in the production of tears the person may experience dry eyes. Dryness causes pain in the eyes. Distorted vision is another result of dryness. Due to dryness eyes become bloodshot and soreness is another reaction.

Dryness also causes a burning sensation. Dryness in eyes develops due to several reasons. It happens due to natural aging process. Women suffer from it during menopause. It also develops due to certain medications.

Medicines for hypertension, depression, birth control pills and Parkinson’s medications all cause dryness in eyes. Excessive use of hair dryers may cause dryness. Constant staring at the monitor of a computer may evoke dryness. Air conditioning and dry heating system also causes dryness in eyes.

Here are some simple and easy methods to deal with dryness of the eyes.
Drink plenty of water. Splash ice cold water on the eyes. This may give temporary relief. Also try to get enough sleep.

Put a handful of coriander seeds into two cups of water. Boil for some time. Let it cool. Strain and refrigerate the mixture. When it turns to ice cold wash the eyes with this mixture. Coriander seeds are very cooling to eyes.

Add half a teaspoon of fennel seeds in one cup of water. Boil and make it half. Cool the mixture and use it as an eye drop.

Wash eyes with ice cold black tea. It really is cooling and it gives a sparkle to the eyes.

Soak a clean cloth in warm water. Squeeze out the surplus water and place it over the eyes for ten minutes. Repeat this process a number of times a day.

This treatment clears the pathways of the oil glands and allows the oils to flow freely into the eyes. Thus it makes the natural lubrication easy.
