Why to know about birth control?
While two bodies are physically involved with each other then it is imperative to learn about the comfort level of your partner and how much sexually healthy it is. Men know that if they’re using condom then they’re safe. But if woman is using any birth control device then men should get the knowledge about how much protective his sex life is.
Types of birth controls and their effects
There are different types of birth control used:
Condoms
In the market condoms are available for male and female both.
Male condoms: This is a thin latex sheet and can be wrapped over the penis to protect sperm to get attached with eggs, which can cause pregnancy. Thus, it holds sperms in it after the men ejaculate. Condom is a very common device and easily available in different flavors in the market at low cost.
It has failure rate of 15 couples out 100 couples every year.
Female condoms: These are like plastic pouches and can be inserted inside the female vagina to protect sperm from entering in to the vagina. Female condoms are little difficult to use. They are less effective in comparison to male condoms. Failure rate of female condom is 21 out of 100 couples every year.
Female Birth controls
Birth control pills: There is the hormone pills used to stop the ovaries to produce eggs each month. If no egg is produced then no risk of sperm is to get attached with it and becomes the cause of pregnancy. These hormones also make the cervical mucus thick and it prevent sperm to go inside the uterus. These pills are advised to take everyday whether she is having sex or not on that particular day. Failure rate for birth control pills is less than 1 couple out of 100 couples each year, if taken every day. If not taken everyday, then it might go up to 8 out 100 couples each year.
Diaphragm: It is inserted inside the vagina just before the sex and it covers the opening end of the cervix. It looks like a dome with a rim and made up of latex. Its failure rate is around 16 couples out of 100 couples.
Contraceptive sponge: It is inserted inside the vagina and contains sperm killers or spermicidal. The failure rate of this plastic sponge foam is around 16 to 30 out of 100 couples.
Many other birth control barriers are available for women like cervical cap, vaginal ring, birth control patch, birth control shot etc and their failure rate vary widely.
To take protection permanently, men go for Vasectomy surgery and females opt for Tubal ligation.
