Hair Transplantation Procedures

Everyday the number of men facing male pattern baldness is increasing. In this case, men usually start to lose hair at the age of 30. In case of male pattern baldness, doctors and specialists prefer hair transplantation. So far, it is the best treatment for this kind of problem.
So what is hair transplantation? This is basically the surgical method of moving the skin of the scalp from one area to the other area of the head. The removed skin contains follicles of hair. And the skin is moved to the areas where there is less hair.

This method was introduced in Japan in the 1930s. Then it was done to restore eyebrows. This was not tried on baldhead then. The modern method was introduced in the 1950s.

Previously there were doubts if the hair will grow properly in the new area of the head. And the good news is that hair was fine when they were shifted from one area of the head to the other.

Previously, this surgery was performed in a small area. But today the method has become more sophisticated and doctors can perform this surgery over a large area. Once the surgery is done, no one will be able to tell that you once had hair problems before. The hair looks absolutely natural.

Before performing the surgery, the doctor and the patient have to meet and the doctor has to know the patient’s preference, skin type, type of balding etc. In other words, the doctor needs to know the patients medical history before he goes for the treatment.

Here it should be mentioned that there are basically three types of hair transplantation methods. They are follicular unit strip surgery also known as FUSS, follicular unit extraction, aka FUE and scalp reduction.

Follicular unit strip surgery is the most common method where the hair is moved from one area to the other. Usually more people prefer this method.

In case of follicular unit extraction, the hair is moved from the back of the head as well as from the sides. This method is more recent. It heals faster than that of FUSS, as there is less cutting.

The last one is scalp reduction. This is a least used method and it is fairly complicated. In this method, the bald scalp is surgically removed and the part that contains hair is stretched over the scull. Since the scalp is stretched, the patient might feel uncomfortable and at the same time, the scalp also becomes thinner.
