It has been observed that most overweight individuals tend to gorge on food when they are out shopping. When shopping for foods make a list and stick to it. Avoid going on a shopping spree when you are hungry.

Try not going to aisles that are packed with foods you are easily tempted to give in to. Try controlling the urge to rush into your favorite pizza joint or ice-cream parlor the minute you see it and make a dash in the opposite direction.

When at home, make it a point to use a food scale to measure portions before serving them on your plate. This will help you keep track of the amount of food you are consuming.

It is better for you to serve meals on small plates and in small bowls to help you eat smaller portions without being deprived. Eat three meals a day and replace unhealthy snacks such as burgers, hot dogs, cheese sandwiches and chocolates with healthier ones such as sprouts, low-fat cheese and fresh fruits.

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday to keep yourself hydrated and to flush out all the harmful toxins from the body. Water also keeps you full and prevents you from overeating.

Avoid doing other activities such as watching television, surfing the net or reading while eating. It is also important for you to make it a habit to eat in the dining area and remove food from other areas of the house such as the bedroom, study room, living room etc.

Always chew your food well and eat slowly. Try eating small portions of high calorie foods and avoid storing them in the house. For instance, if you are an ice-cream lover, avoid storing a huge brick in the house and try going out and getting a scoop when you crave to eat it.
