Herbal Cure For Common Cold

As the name suggests common cold is a universal disease that affects large human population across the globe. Symptoms of common cold include runny nose, sore throat, chest congestion, nasal blockage, frequent chills, body pain, fatigue, severe head ache, cough etc. Though medical science has made tremendous advancements in various fields, no permanent cure for common cold has been yet discovered.

Sudden change of weather is the main cause of such viral colds. With proper medications and ample bed rest, a person suffering from such cold usually recovers within a week. Though common cold is not life threatening nevertheless one has to take the precautionary measures as common cold is contagious and can lead to severe medical ailments if left unattended for a long time.

Most of the time the medications suggested to cure viral cold include antibiotics. Antibiotics though effective in checking viral infections are not free from side effects. Herbal medicines are the best alternative to allopathic medicines and this is exactly why herbal or ayurvedic medicines are gaining popularity these days.

Nature is filled with diversified rich reserves of biotic plants which have proved to be efficacious in curing various human ailments. Basil, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, cloves, honey etc. are some spices containing active compounds that counter the ill effects of common cold.

Preparation of herbal medicine for common cold is very simple. They can be had in their raw state or boiled in water to give immediate relief from dry cough, congestion, body ache, head ache, sneezing etc.

For sore throat consume 1-2 cardamoms, cloves, rock sugar or raisins twice or thrice in a day to alleviate the unbearable pain and uneasiness of the throat.

To cure dry cough, take equal quantities of powdered cinnamon, dry ginger, black pepper and cardamom and rock sugar. Take half tsp of this concoction with lukewarm water or honey to have a peaceful sleep.
