Herbal Remedies For Leg Pain

Leg pain typically refers to discomfort in the portion of the leg from the knee downwards, including the knees, the long bones of the shin and calves and the feet.

Leg pain can result, from many causes, including straining of the muscles and ligaments; standing or walking for long hours, nerve weakness, overexertion, arthritis, or diabetes.

Home Remedies for Leg Pain:

Eat a simple diet rich in green, leafy vegetables, as well as fruits such as oranges and tomatoes that are rich in Vitamin C. Also eat foods that are rich in calcium, potassium and magnesium, such as bananas and plantains for proper metabolism in the legs. Avoid coffee and chocolate.

Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily to keep the body well hydrated. Take a steam bath and get frequent massages to relieve joint and muscle tension. Apply a hot pack to improve circulation in the leg and ease the pain.

Eat coconut regularly; it reduces inflammation and supports healthy tissues. Eating walnuts first thing in the morning also helps prevent joint pain. Take a teaspoon of cod liver oil daily; it provides Vitamins D and A for good muscle function.

Consume a glass of water with one or two spoons of fenugreek powder to reduce pains and inflammation. Apply clove oil as a poultice for painful muscles. Include ginger in the daily diet for its painkilling properties.

Prepare an infusion of licorice roots in water and steep overnight. Strain and drink as a hot or cold tea. If leg pains result from arthritis, crush two to three cloves of garlic and add to a glass of diluted milk. Boil down to about a quarter of its amount and drink at bedtime.

Mix one part camphor with 20 parts mustard oil. Leave in the sun until the camphor dissolves in the oil. Use this oil to massage legs daily. Perform yoga exercises such as gomukh asana and uttan pad asana to stretch tight muscles and release tensions that cause leg pains.
