How To Treat Malaria At Home

Malaria, a very common disease in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, is caused by a parasite called plasmodium. Female mosquitoes of the Anopheles variety are the main cause of this disease.  Such species of mosquito bite infected individuals and transfer the parasite to others where it continues to multiply quickly and spreads to different body parts.

People living in unhygienic conditions and with poor immune systems are more susceptible to bites from the aforementioned mosquitoes. Insanitary conditions in tropical climates allow these to breed very quickly.

A very prominent feature of the mosquito bite is a sudden rise of body temperature along with shivering, chills and severe headaches. This sudden rise in temperature, if not handled quickly and properly, can cause other serious complications.

A prolonged malaria spell can leave the patient anemic and can possibly be fatal. Improper handling of the condition may also cause dysentery.  Quite often it causes pain in the limbs and profuse sweating, a loss of appetite and weakness.

At times, there may be very sudden changes in body temperature, from very low to extremely high.  It is very important to keep a constant check on the patient’s temperature.

Malaria can be avoided by observing a few very simple precautions. Mosquito bites must be avoided. As mosquitoes breed in filth and humid conditions, keep your surroundings clean and don’t allow water to stagnate as moisture contributes to more rapid breeding.

Keep your skin covered with proper clothing.  Proper personal hygiene is of paramount importance. If you do wind up infected with malaria, adhere to the following steps.

During the initial stages consume very large amounts of water to bring down the body temperature.  Alternately ingest plain water, fruit juices or water with lemon juice.  As a consequence of the illness, the patient may refuse plain water as it tastes bad to them.

A simple solution to that aversion is to add a bit of sugar and a pinch of salt to make it more palatable. In most cases this drink works very well. Bear in mind that a lack of fluids may cause dehydration and then result in complications. If the body temperature cannot be controlled, don’t hesitate to employ hydrotherapeutic treatment.
