About Testicular Cancer
Testis is a gland inside the man’s scrotum, which looks like an egg. Function of the testis is to produce sperm and secretes testosterone hormone. When one testis or both testes develop cancer cell in it then it is known as Testicular Cancer.
Types of Testicular Cancer
There are two types of Testicular Cancer:
Seminomas Testicular Cancer: This is a kind of testicular cancer, which spreads very slowly. It can be treated with the help of radiation treatment.
Non-seminomas Testicular Cancer: This kind of testicular cancer spreads very rapidly.
These two types of Testicular Cancer are found in the germ cells. Germ cells are found within the testicles. The function of the germ cells is to produce immature sperm.
Risk factor of Testicular Cancer
After several years of studies, the root cause of Testicular Cancer is not yet decided by the researches. Few researches are found undescended testis to be its main reason. To some studies it can be the result of family history.
According to the studies, white men are more prone to this disease. Though for last few years of growth of this disease, black men are found to be highly affected by this disease.
Symptoms of Testicular Cancer
The main symptom of Testicular Cancer is said to be the lump like feeling in the testis. Other symptoms of Testicular Cancer are:
Pain in lower abdomen
Pain in groin area
Swelling in testis
Discomfort and pain around the testicle
Unusual secretion from scrotum or testicle
Diagnosis of Testicular Cancer
Self examination during the time of bathing is found to be the best diagnose to suspect this disease. If any lump like thing is found in the testis during the time of self-examination then one should consult the doctor. Then doctors go for blood test, biopsy, ultra-sound to find out the existence of cancer cell.
Treatment of Testicular Cancer
In many cases, testis is operated and removed. But men should not be worried about that as with one testis men can produce sperm and erection is also normal. Men still remain potent. They can also go for sperm banking before going for the surgery.
Many men prefer to go for radiation therapy through which cancer cells are killed. Radiation therapy is more useful in seminoma cancer as non-seminoma cancer does not respond to this therapy. If cancer is in advanced stage then people combine chemotherapy along with it.
With the proper treatment Testicular Cancer can be cured properly.
