Know More About Breast Cancer
Tumors are collection of cells that grows abnormally or without any control. “Benign” Tumors do not spread throughout the body and are not cancerous. “Malignant” Tumors have the ability to grow into other tissues or spread to distant parts of the body. “Breast cancer” is basically the malignant tumor within the breast.
Lobules, which are milk producing glands or the passage that drain milk from the lobules to the nipple called ducts are attacked by breast cancer, i.e. it starts from here only. There are few chances of beginning of cancer in the stromal tissues that include the fatty and fibrous connective tissues of the breast.
How the breast and nipple feels changes, lump formation in or near the breast or in the underarm area, nipple become tender, looks of breast and nipple changes, shape and size of the breast changes, inward turning of nipples in the breast, skin of the nipple, areola or breast become scaly, red and swollen. Sometimes ridges and pitting is also there. Discharging of the nipple is another symptom of the breast cancer.
Risk factor of Breast cancer
Doctors are still not able to find the reason for breast cancer. They cannot explain why a woman is suffering from breast cancer and other is not. Here are some the risk factors for breast cancer.
As a woman will grow old, chances of getting breast cancer will increase. If a woman already had breast cancer in one of the breast, then she is at greater risk of getting the cancer in other breast. Also, if breast cancer runs in the family then you are at higher risk.
First child also have an effect on breast cancer, the older a woman is when she has her first baby, the chances of having breast cancer also increases. If you had your first menstrual period before age 12, then you are at an increased risk of cancer. Also, women who had menopause after 55 years are at an increased risk of cancer.
Before 30 years of age, if you had taken radiation therapy to the chest (including breasts), then you are at higher risk of breast cancer. Those women who are not physically active during their whole life are at higher risk of breast cancer. Breast cancer also depends on alcohol. The more you drink alcohol, the higher are the risk of breast cancer.
