Interstitial Cystitis can be shameful to you when due to this bladder problem you will feel the urge to go to toilet more frequently. Interstitial Cystitis happens due to the inflammation or irritation on the wall of the bladder. Due to the thickening of the bladder wall, it becomes stiffer and it gets difficult for a bladder to control the urge of urination. Thus, frequent urine leakage takes place.

Researches have shown around 5 to 10 percent of patient with Interstitial Cystitis can have ulcers in their bladder.

Symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis

Frequent urination is the main problem with Interstitial Cystitis. People with this problem might feel frequency of urination even 60 times a day.

Since the bladder becomes stiffer and elasticity of bladder becomes less; thus patient urinates more than usual.

Patient with this problem may feel severe or mild pain in pelvic area. Men may feel pain in scrotum and penis area. Pain vanishes after one urinates.

Due to this problem, one may feel pain and discomfort during the time of intercourse.

Reasons of Interstitial Cystitis
The root cause of Interstitial Cystitis is not much known. It is seen that this problem is more prevalent in women but men and children are also affected with it.

Bladder damage: Bladder damage due to any surgery or for any other reason is known to be among the prime causes of Interstitial Cystitis.

Bladder distention: It is known that if bladder is not empty for any reason for a longer of period time then one may develop Interstitial Cystitis.

Bacterial infection: Any kind of bacterial infection in bladder may cause this problem.

Damage of nerve: Any kind of inflammation or damage in pelvic nerve or problem in spinal cord can lead to Interstitial Cystitis.

Sexual abuse: Any kind of childhood sexual abuse can lead to Interstitial Cystitis in a person in his/her adulthood or in childhood itself.

These are the main reasons of Interstitial Cystitis. There is no permanent cure for Interstitial Cystitis. But the symptoms of this disease can be handled with the help of certain medications and other treatments like Bladder instillation, Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, surgery etc. Otherwise to prevent this problem certain life style changes like quitting smoking, proper diet, bladder training, stress relief etc are helpful.
