Natural Mosquito Repellants for Infants

If you were in a tropical country, you surely would have experienced the menace of mosquitoes and mosquito bites. As an adult you can take preventive measures and save yourself from their bites by application of certain chemical formulations on your body and skin.

But imagine the plight of an infant as a consequence of mosquito bites. It may not be a very healthy option to subject the child too to the effects of the same commercial medications. Nature has provided certain natural repellants to keep these insects at bay.

Of course, specially designed mosquito nets for infants are commercially available but reportedly, those are not foolproof and impractical to use at times. Why not use natural and herbal repellants for the purpose. Try one of these.

Prepare a mixture of two and a half spoonfuls of cedar wood and basil. Dissolve it in a cup of grain alcohol of potency of 190. Thoroughly mix the ingredients and put this in an airtight jar.

Thoroughly shake the jar. For convenience of use, you may shift the contents to smaller bottles. You should test if the child is allergic to this formulation by applying a small quantity of it onto the child. You may replace cedar wood and basil with juniper and citronella.

Apart from that, one may prepare a repellant by making use of myrrh and Palma Rosa. Other plants with natural ingredients to repel mosquitoes are rosemary, pine and rose geranium. Leaves of neem can be employed to make a paste that may be applied on the skin to naturally, keep the mosquitoes away.

You may be aware that certain natural fragrances are preferred by mosquitoes also. You should not apply floral-based fragrances. Similarly, fruit-based fragrances should also be avoided to keep the place free from mosquitoes.

Another useful hint that comes to mind is to avoid the use of detergents and fabric softeners containing synthetic fruity or floral scents. Garlic is a very effective mosquito repellant.

Over the years, there has been an increase in the varieties of mosquitoes. Garlic is found to deal with most of such varieties. Its flavor just overwhelms the smelling sense of mosquitoes and keeps these away from harming you.
