Newborn babies do not require water initially. Your parents and grand parents would also suggest you to not to make your baby drink plain water. This becomes so habitual that you almost do not remember that your baby requires water after a certain period.
Your pediatrician would also advise you the same that your baby should not be given plain water until the age of six months. Newborn babies fulfill their water requirements by drinking milk, which is mostly water and that is why it is not a matter of concern.
Of course, after the period of six months, you need to feed your baby with water as well. Now how much water your baby requires is a question you would need the answer. Generally, during the first few weeks you start to give water to your baby, you would tend to skip this more often.
Your baby might also keep on crying in expectation of plain water but you may not be able to understand it and assume some other reasons for it. It is highly advisable that you keep a close watch on your baby’s requirements for water. The easiest way is to think about your baby whenever you drink water yourself.
Furthermore, by this time, you would start giving solid foods to your baby and you would prefer that your baby takes more of foods other than milk. This thought is fair enough and your baby actually requires cereals, pulses, beans, vegetables and fruits, in order to keep pace with her growing age.
Now whenever you feed your baby with some cereals or any other sort of solid food, take care that your baby would feel thirsty, in the same manner any adult does. So always feed him with plain water after she takes her diet. This stands especially applicable to foods that are salty, however, you can see if your baby is responding to water after taking sweet preparations.
Generally, you are not expected to make your child drink water after taking milk or milk preparations. The same stands true for fruit juices.
