Simple Ayurvedic Remedies For Flu

Medications used in ayurveda prepared from plants are quite safe and effective. This is one of the main factors for the rise of this alternative line of treatment in modern times.

Flu is one of the most common diseases affecting individuals irrespective of race, gender or age. Mild flu could lead to severe repercussions if immediate medical help is not provided to the patient. While most adult patients display symptoms of fever, body ache, chills, fatigue and cough; children may also exhibit signs of runny nose, chest congestion, stomach ache, diarrhoea and nausea.

For quick recovery, it is essential for patients to intake nutritious balanced diet that is low on fat and spice. Taking small meals at short intervals is advisable as compared to taking a heavy meal at a time to prevent indigestion. One can supplement current medications with simple ayurvedic remedies to get quick relief from flu.

However it is advisable to seek doctor’s advice before proceeding with the same. Add 3-4 drops of Tea-tree or Eucalyptus oil to hot steam bath. To reduce the severity of flu symptoms, one can boil some water in a container till steam begins to form. Add few drops of essential oils like thyme, peppermint or lavender to it and inhale the steam.

This will considerably minimise symptoms associated with flu and boosts the immune system. These essential oils clear nasal blockage and stuffy sinuses. Intake of herbal tea prepared by adding 1 tsp ginger paste, 1 tsp honey and 2-3 basil leaves to 1 cup water. Boil the contents for 2 minutes and strain it to obtain a perfect anti flu solution.

Another herbal tea can be made by blending ½ tsp each of medicinal herbs like cinnamon, berry and vanilla in 1 cup hot water. In the absence of these herbs, one can squeeze 4-5 drops of lemon on a cup of hot water containing 1 tsp honey and ginger extract. This concoction not only prevents infection but also soothes aching sore throat.
