Squint Eye in Children: What should you do
Vision problems in children often go unnoticed and untreated. However, early detection of vision problems can be tremendously helpful in treating the eye related ailments right from the beginning.
Squint eye is one such major problem, which parents keep on ignoring during the school-going days of their children. Since it does not cause any kind of serious impediment in vision, most people prefer to sideline any such matters.
Squint eye is one such problem. Most of the people who have squint eyes develop this during their childhood only but in absence of any treatment during that time, this problem reaches at a stage that even surgery becomes ineffective many times.
Squint eye is of two types: paralytic and concomitant. It is the later one, which is observed in children. What actually happens that one or the other eye keeps on working properly and the child does not feel any problems in reading, writing and her other daily activities.
Another way of classifying squint eye is convergent and divergent. In the first case, eye is turned inside, while in the later one, one of the eyes turn outside. Squint eye can be easily observed in children and even in infants as little as six to nine months. Though your ophthalmologist may suggest you to wait till the child reaches the age of at least three years, you can start with proper feeding right from the beginning.
Though most of us believe that squint eye requires surgery, it is very much possible to treat it without any surgery. It depends on the complexity and type of the ailment. A patient may be advised for wearing glasses that can correct refractive errors for a few months and desired results can be achieved. This shall be accompanied by certain ocular exercises as well.
In the meanwhile, one should try to overcome from all deficiencies of Vitamin A. This encompasses taking green leafy vegetables, carrots, beetroots and a variety of fruits. One needs to be cautious in working on computer or watching television from close distance. The patient should ensure proper lighting, ideally behind him and not before his eyes.
