The Importance Of Eating A Healthy Breakfast




Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day by health experts. A popular saying goes: breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper. This in itself is enough to suggest that one must lay utmost significance on eating a hearty breakfast and refrain from skipping it.Even though there is enough scientific evidence to support the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, more than 50% of individuals do not eat breakfast on a daily basis. According to a recent survey it was observed that 1 out of every 3 individuals skip breakfast almost 4 times a week including kids.

Almost 45% of children in the age group of 8-12 years and 54% in the age group of 13-15 years leave home after drinking just a glass of milk.  Statistics also reveal that 30% of adults usually have a cup of tea or coffee followed by an array of unhealthy snacks such as burgers, French fries and hot dogs every other morning.

Why is eating a nutritious breakfast so important?

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and recharges the body with the much needed fuel after 8-10 hours of sleep. It supplies energy to the whole body and gets the metabolism running. It also supplies energy and nutrients to the muscles and brain and helps keep one energetic throughout the day. Science tells us that eating a nutritious breakfast improves mental performance, focus and memory.

Breakfast nourishes the body and keeps you in the pink of health. It is the one meal that gives your day a heady start and helps you meet the body’s vitamin and mineral requirements. A nutritious breakfast helps you derive more vitamin A and C, fiber, iron, zinc and riboflavin. Research tells us that individuals who eat breakfast everyday are more likely to meet their daily nutrient intake recommendations as compared to those who skip breakfast.

Breakfast also helps you manage your weight effectively. If you happen to be on mission weight loss, eating breakfast can help you battle weight gain and obesity and enable you to maintain healthier weight. It has been observed that individuals who consume breakfast every day have a lower BMI (Body Mass Index) and are leaner than those who skip breakfast. This is because breakfast helps keep you satiated and prevents you from eating unhealthy food all day long.
