Thrush is the name for a yeast infection in the mouth. This infection can be painful just like it is in other parts of the body. Thrush is often found in people carrying the HIV virus. Sometimes it may be the first sign that someone is carrying HIV.
Thrush looks like milky patches on the tongue. If you try to brush your tongue and it bleeds it is thrush. Yeast grows in moist parts of the body like the mouth. Some medications like prolonged antibiotics can cause thrush or other yeast infections. People who have illness where they are immuno-suppressed develop thrush.
Thrush looks like white patches on the tongue. It can also look like red bumps on the tongue. These can be extremely painful and if left untreated can get worse. The mouth infection can spread to the roof of your mouth and down your throat.
Thrush will affect your sense of taste. Stomach aches may also accompany oral thrush. Thrush infections get worse for a person who has HIV. Thrush occurs more commonly in babies and young children.
Thrush is caused by Candida. Candida can cause genital yeast infections as well. Normally our body’s immune system keeps Candida from becoming an infection. Sometimes prolonged use of antibiotics causes a yeast infection. Diabetics are more prone to yeast infections. Condoms with nonoxsynol-9 in have been known to cause yeast infections.
Genital yeast infections are found in the vagina in women and on the penis in men. It is not common for the infection to be passed through sex. Men who have a foreskin are more likely to contract it.
Male genital yeast infections cause soreness, redness, an itchy rash, discharge and burning. Some of these symptoms are the same as sexually transmitted diseases. You should see a doctor to get the correct diagnosis.
Candida is a fungus and is treated with anit-fungal medication. Monistat treats the genital infections. Infections of the mouth are treated with a swish and swallow medication.
Yeast infections of the mouth (thrush) and yeast infections of the genitals can be very uncomfortable. There are anti fungal treatments available to treat Candida.
