All the stage III and IV patients with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer are of the age of more than 45 years.

Causes for thyroid cancer
The main cause for thyroid cancer is not known to doctor yet. But it is said that thyroid cancer is never a contagious disease. It means no one can catch this disease from other.
Over exposure to radiation might cause this cancer. This cancer can be seen three times more in women than men. It is mainly seen from the age of 20 to 60 years.
Due to low iodine diet, this cancer might develop. Sometimes thyroid cancer is hereditary.
Treatment for Thyroid Cancer
The main way to treat thyroid cancer is to operate it. Surgery is recommended almost for every kind of thyroid cancer. But in some cases of anaplastic thyroid cancer, surgery might not be recommended. In this kind of surgery, tumor is completely removed and portion of thyroid gland is also operated. But surgery is recommended depending upon the stage and size of the tumor. Few kinds of surgery of thyroid cancer are Lobectomy, Thyroidectomy, Lymph node removal etc.
Risk involved after surgery are permanent or temporary loss of voice quality, excessive bleeding, wound infection etc.
Apart from surgery, other therapies like thyroid hormone therapy, chemotherapy, external beam radiation, radioactive iodine treatment etc are also helpful to treat thyroid cancer.
