Tinnitus does not appear to be a serious disease initially and a person may find it funny. A person affected of tinnitus hears unusual sounds like humming, ringing, roaring or clicking noises.

In the initial stage, many people are not able to differentiate whether they are hearing a regular sound around or something unusual, which no one else is facing. However, this is certainly a health disorder that needs care, attention and treatment. This is also an indication to several other diseases associated with your health.

In ancient times, this disorder was taken as a hoax and people suffering from this disease were said to be haunted or taken over by spirits. This myth or a misconception still exists in many parts of the world. However, the modern medical science has identified the causes, symptoms and treatment of this disease termed as tinnitus.

Mostly people who work or live at places that suffer noise pollution, due to motors, railways, airplanes, gun fires, rock concerts, stadiums, are most prone to tinnitus. Besides this, people addicted of alcohol and drugs are also on the high risk of acquiring this ailment. A large number of doctors and researchers have found that tinnitus also occurs due to rising age.

Apparently, it is a problem related with your hearing system of your body. Soft sounds such as those like whispers or breezing air are sometimes borne by the patient but the intensity of sound can increase to an incredible level many times. Therefore, soft sounds also should not be taken lightly as when they change their strength, you never ever know.

Many times, this ailment is seen in relation with problems such as migraine. Therefore, people suffering tinnitus may have a history of migraine or frequent headaches. One may also have other issues related with ears, nose, throat and brain that may have close incidence with tinnitus.

Therefore it is advisable to seek medical attention as soon as one feels anything unusual about his hearing. It is purely a physical problem and has no relation with your psychological state.
