Tips To Avoid Asthma Attacks




Preventing asthma attacks is difficult but not impossible. All you need to keep some things in mind and practice discipline. Here below are few tips that you would find useful in preventing asthma attacks.

• Avoid going to places filled with log fires or wood stoves. This applies to religious places where these may be some such things keep happening. Of course, the same applies to cigarette smoking also.

While you are supposed to avoid active smoking, you have to take care that you are not subjected to passive smoking. This can trigger asthma attack quite often, and you will find yourself in a troublesome situation quite soon. Therefore, avoid passive smoking at work and everywhere else.

• Do not eat heavy food items in dinner. If you have done it, then do something to help digest it. Do not go for sleep with heavy stomach as this can trigger asthma attack. You can always take a brisk walk before going to sleep. Apart from heavy food, you have to reduce your salt intake also. Limit its intake as much as possible. It is advisable that you do not eat food with additives.

• If you are amongst those who like to exercise, then you have to practice some precautions. First, do not breathe from mouth while exercising. Always breathe from your nose. If you start breathing from your mouth, it can dry up your throat and you can get an asthma attack.

Exercising urge you to breathe more oxygen and you might be tempted to breathe from your mouth—just avoid this. Any ways, you can go for swimming, which is best suited to asthma patients.

• If you have picked up fever or headache, do not take pain killers without consulting your doctor. You have to abstain from self medication, completely.

• Take a note of your caffeine intake during the day. Just avoid taking coffee, but if you are not able to live without it, just take one light cup of coffee.
