Our body needs continuous energy to work throughout the day. Apart from having breakfast, lunch or dinner, the body needs essential nutrients to fuel it with energy. Besides, having regular foods, intake of small meals is also beneficial.  These mini meals are snacks which assuage a person’s hunger between meals.

Healthy snacks fights fatigue, combats high levels of cholesterols and prevents the incidence of heart attacks. For growing children who can’t fill their small appetites by main meals a day, need to extra food would suffice appetite.

Older people who cannot eat enough food during meals can provide their body with required nutrients through snacks that would supplement their meals. Hence snacks play a vital role in everyone’s life and proper choice of snacks is therefore necessary. Some healthy snacks are as follow:

Banana: Banana is a great food and provides greater benefits than most fruits. Eating bananas improves cardiovascular health, helps protect from strokes and ulcers, improves blood pressure and of course boosts energy.

Besides being a rich source of vitamin B6 and vitamin C, fiber and manganese they contain considerable amount of potassium making it a good-for-heart healthy snack.

Yogurt: Yogurt has high health benefits. Yogurt contains more calcium and protein than milk. It contains good quantity of phosphorus and water that provides natural immunity to the body.

Yogurts come in three varieties: regular (whole milk), low fat and skim. Low fat and skim yogurts are good for those who are on balanced diet. Yogurt also contains living micro-organisms responsible for many health benefits besides boosting the immune system of the body.

Nuts: A great source of protein, nuts make a good snack. They are in rich in fiber and oxidants too. People who eat nuts as a part of their snacks are found to have lower risks of heart attacks.

Of all nuts, walnut has the greatest benefits. It fights cancer and supports the immune system. Besides, it protects the heart too. Cashew nuts, pecans, almonds, Brazil nuts are some of the nuts that one can add to ones’ snack.

Popcorn: Popcorn is one of the best whole grains, a rich source of fiber and an inexpensive snack. It has large quantities of vitamins, proteins and minerals. Popcorn has more iron than eggs, roast beef or milk. So eating a packet of popcorn is as good as drinking a glass of milk. Popcorn is also good for children as it builds bone, muscle tissue, aids digestion and is good for teeth as well.

Carrot:  Carrot during snack time can prove very beneficial as it provides complete nutrition such as enzymes, vitamins and minerals to the body. Carrot is easily assimilated by the body and suffices one’s appetite for hours. It’s also good for spleen and stomach. It helps improve impotency, night blindness, long term cough besides strengthening kidney. Carrot also helps to fight cancer.
