The problem of glossitis occurs when swelling or redness of the tongue happens. It is caused by a certain kind of infectivity caused by a virus. In this case, the tongue becomes very smooth and plain. However, not many cases of glossitis have been known.
Some of the indicators of glossitis are puffiness of tongue, scarcity of Vitamin B 12 will make tongue plain smooth, dark reddish appearance of tongue, affected person will feel pain & warmness in tongue, will experience trouble in grinding, gulping and even speaking.
The most possible causes which can make a person more prone to glossitis are the exposure of a person from any sought of infectivity, dehydration and reduced amount of saliva pushes the growth of bacteria inside the mouth, people who get their tongues pierced as a symbol of fashion are most vulnerable to this disease.
Moreover, people who are or have been repeatedly exposed to several annoying substances. If an individual is sensitive towards a particular mouth related products or their chemical constituents.
Moreover, deficiency of Vitamin B and problem of anaemia and ulcer can also result in glossitis.
There are very rare cases where this disease is hereditary in nature. As a first step, its cure involves decreasing swelling in tongue. In majority of such cases, the treatment is painless but if this ailment results in harsh inflammation of the tongue which has the potential to obstruct the passage of air which in turn will require immediate hospitalization. Normally, glossitis is fully curable in ten days but if the duration becomes longer than it can take more than a month.
It is very necessary to maintain good hygienic condition of the mouth (oral hygiene) which includes comprehensive brushing of teeth at least twice a day. One must drink adequate amount of water so as to facilitate the production of saliva in mouth to prevent bacterial infection.
