The heart is a bunch of muscles and hence benefits from the regular exercise just like other muscles in the body. Regular exercise may include yoga, aerobic and other light efforts like walking. These types of exercises increase the functional capacity of the heart, increasing the tone of the entire bodily muscles and correcting the blood circulations. The benefits are seen from the exercise of moderate intensity i.e. 50-75% of the total capacity, when done for 15-30 minutes at least three times a week. Brisk walking, jogging, bicycling, swimming are indeed beneficial.
One has to avoid stress. The research has shown that, when the stress attacks a person, there is stimulation to the feelings of the personality. This may change the positive reaction and make person pessimistic. There will be hormonal disturbance and finally that may lead to the blockage of the artery or the vein supplying the heart and may damage the heart.
It is also proven that physiological responses to the stress include an increase in the heart rate, an increased breathing and an increase in blood pressure. All these reaction leads to release of adrenaline, the hormone that narrows the arteries and results into the greater workload on heart. High blood pressure damage arteries and finally causes the heat damage.
Light exercise especially yoga is best. Pranayama (breathing techniques) are proven to prevent heart diseases. On should not be lazy at all. Daily morning walk prevents risk of having heart diseases. Laughter helps a lot and is proven by researches. Meditation and enough sleep really helps heart getting calmer effect. Certain aasana like shavaasana (the dead posture) in yoga is indeed useful.
