This is also known as upset in stomach or dyspepsia. This is the discomfort or a burning sensation in the upper abdomen. This is usually seen with nausea, belching, abdominal bloating and rarely vomiting. This could be due to certain diseases of digestive tract such as ulcer or reflux syndrome (where the content of the stomach comes up in the mouth).
Ayurveda has innumerable descriptions on this. The whole science of Ayurveda is based on this. It considers indigestion or poor digestion as the main causative factor of producing any diseases or disturbance in bodily humors namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Ayurveda labels this symptom as “Agnimandhya” (say – agnee maan d yaa). This literally means poor digestive fire. In Ayurveda, the digestion totally depends on what amount and quality of digestive fire you have. Poorer the digestive fire lesser the capacity to digest. However it could be due to any of the three humors of the body namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
