Diet for Liver Care

One may need to cut down the amount of sodium in the diet. The sodium or salt causes the body to retain the fluids. Hence it is always advisable to restrict high sodium diet. The healthy liver is just like the processing factory. Fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins go there and got break-down and stored. They are released as and when required.

Limited amount of protein is required. The damaged liver can't process the protein very well. The high amount of protein would build-up the ammonia in the blood stream which could be toxic for the body.

One should go for more carbohydrates. These are body’s energy supply. The healthy liver makes glycogen from the carbohydrates. When the body needs energy, the glycogen is broken down into substance that can be easily utilized by body. The damaged liver can't do this and without glycogen, consistent supplies of carbohydrates are needed from the diet source to meet up the energy level in the body.

One should take moderate amounts of fats making sure that the body is supplied by enough calories, fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids. Too much spicy foods and oily foods are best to be avoided.

If possible, try to avoid junk food, packaged food and food containing preservatives. Excessive cheese, butter and ghee is to be avoided. One should be on light diet like corn flakes or rice flakes. The sweets and cold drinks are to be avoided. Alcohol and non-vegetarian diet is undoubtedly avoided.
