When Does Menopause Occur?

Menopause is a normal physiological condition that generally occurs at the age between 45 to 55 years but may vary from individual to individual. It occurs mainly due to hormonal disturbances in the body. As per ayurvedic point of view owing to the disturbances in the three humors i.e. vata, pitta and kapha and predominantly pitta, such a problem occurs in the body.

How does it occur?

Menopause is a condition that is very natural to women. On an average a female child is born with about on an average 1 to 3 million eggs whose count is left to about 4 lacks till the attainment of puberty. A woman at the age of her puberty has certain number of functional eggs present in her ovaries. These eggs contribute to her reproductive life. When these functional eggs get depleted it leads to a stage that is known as menopause. The age at which menopause occurs varies from individual to individual but generally it is seen at the age between 45 to 55 years of age. It is considers as the very normal gesture and is taking as the aging process in a woman. But there may be some factors like hystectomy or there is damage top ovary by any reason may also leads to early cessation of menses causing menopause.

Ovulation is under the control of various hormones especially FSH (follicular stimulating hormone). As the aging occurs in a woman, the effect of FSH some how decreases thereby is unable to stimulate the ovary properly. This condition leads to the decreases in estrogen production in the body of a female. Estrogen is a crucial hormone that is very helpful in supporting various functions in female’s body. Estrogen influences various body organs, blood vessels, cardiac system, breasts, uterus and urinogenital system. It is strongly believed that due to this sudden decline in estrogen levels in the blood leads to the symptoms that are being caused during menopause.

According to ayurveda due to disturbances in vata, pitta and kapha there occurs abnormality in the females body thereby causing a condition known as menopause. In this there is a huge discomfort in the female body and generally a symptom of pitta aggravance is seen. This leads to excessive heat sensation to the body and also is causes great inconvenience to the female that even disrupts her daily regimen.
