As the women progresses towards the age of menopause she starts getting irregular menses that may sometimes happen early or may some times gets delayed. This happens due to irregular and uninfluential stimulation of the ovaries to perform their desired function. Considering this the symptoms can be divided into two categories.

Heart problems |
- Irregular bleeding per vagina – it is a symptom that is very common and is found in most of the females facing the menopausal stage. There is irregular bleeding from vagina (periods). Sometimes therelood that comes out of vagina and sometimes there is low to normal bleeding. This causes great discomfort to the women. These usually are called as irregular menses.
- Hot flashes – this is the classic symptom of menopausal stage. This is the major reason women approach doctors for treatment. This is a sudden sensation of warmth and heat that usually spreads to whole body especially to face and chest region. As our body is tuned with the mechanism to maintain the body temperature, this leads to sweating. This is followed by the cold sensation causing chills. This also causes feeling of anxiety and increases the heart rate causing discomforts. However with the advent of time these hot flushes gradually get over as the time passes.
- Vaginal thinning – estrogen is the most important hormone that plays the significant role in female’s urino-genital tract. But after menopause all the urino-genital organs especially uterus, urethra and bladder shrinks causing frequency in micturation or involuntary leakage of urine and may cause pain. Pain may also be caused during sexual intercourse due to thinning of membrane.
- Bone loss – it is one of the most common symptoms in menopause. There is a constant decline in the bone density. Although there are no symptoms of this but this gradually leads to osteoporosis that is a condition that makes bone weak and susceptible for fractures. And due to the history of the decreasing bone density there healings generally nuisance.
- Heart problems – it has been noticed that during the menopausal stage, females generally have high LDL (low density proteins) in there body. This LDL is also known as bad lipoprotein and increases the risk of heart related problems. Other heart related factors that can be induced by this stage is angina, raised blood pressure, cardiac arrest etc.
- Weight gain – it has been found that females approaching the menopausal age generally have increase in their weight. Again hormonal disturbances can be blamed for such a thing.
- Mood swings – it has been noticed that women becomes irritated and tearful during these days of menopause. This happens due to disturbed hormonal structure. These are relieved by constant oral hormonal therapy.
- Sleep disturbances – it has been seen that during pre and post menopausal stage, there is disturbances in sleep. This happens due to fluctuation in hormonal activities. As all the activities are under direct control of hormones i.e. endocrine system hence imbalance in its functioning cause very disturbing life style and sleep.
- Other symptoms – these includes urinary disturbances, sweating at nights, insomnia, decreased sexual desires, irregular menses that can be early or delayed. Pains in joints and muscles, frequent headaches and vertigo, general body debility and weak bones.
