Penis Yeast Infection– Treatment

Many people are under the misconception that only women suffer from yeast infection. Yeast infection is seen in men as well, though the condition is not as common in men as in women.
In fact the most common cause of yeast infection in men is coming in contact with women who suffer from the infection. Women pass on the infection to their male partners. Hence men end up with Penile Yeast Infection.
Symptoms of penile yeast infection are redness, swelling, and soreness in the penis. In some cases small blisters might appear on the tip of the penis. Of course the yeast infection is also accompanied with cottage cheese like discharge from the penis.
Penile yeast infection should be treated in time to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts.
Vaginal yeast infection is treated using creams like Monistat. Purchase the cream from a drug store and apply it generously on the affected area. The cream will provide relief from itching and burning sensation. It will also help reduce the redness and inflammation of the penis.
Prepare a bath of lukewarm water. Add 20 ml white vinegar in the bathtub and soak yourself in this. Keep your legs open so that specially treated water can reach the affected area. Repeat this bath twice a day to get relief from itching. The white vinegar is acidic in nature and helps kill the infection causing bacteria.
Wash your penis with a medicated soap and lukewarm water. Do not use fragranced cosmetic soaps for washing yourself as the chemicals used to produce the fragrance can cause the yeast to multiply.
If you run out of Monistat or white vinegar, apply two pods of peeled and crushed garlic on the infected area. Garlic is a proven remedy for many fungal infections. You can use the garlic treatment as many number of times.
Eat plenty of yogurt as the friendly bacteria in yogurt help fight the infection causing bacteria.
Do not sleep in your underwear. Keeping the area dry and airy will deprive the yeast of ideal environment as they find it easier to grow in warm and moist areas.
Get yourself checked by a doctor if you have never had a penile infection before. The doctor would like to check the cause of your infection. If it is a yeast infection you will be prescribed Diflucan or Nizrol for treatment. But do not use these for treatment on your own as they have associated side effects.
