DIET FOR PREGNANCY

The diet must be increased by 100kcal in 1 st trimester, 300kcal in 2 nd trimester.

If you are suffering from morning sickness, eat little but frequently.

Try to eat energy giving foods like fresh fruits, milk, and green vegetables, etc.

Your body needs more vitamins so must for multivitamin supplements.

Iron maintains the level of blood supply to fetus and placenta. During pregnancy, iron intake must be increased by eating whole grain breads, dried fruits, poultry, and iron fortified cereals. And must take iron capsules.

Folic acid supports the increasing blood volume of mother and decrease the risk of baby Neural Tube Defects (NFD). So you must take folic acid supplement of 400ug (0.4 mg) for the first 3 months of the pregnancy.

Vitamin B and Calcium are necessary for healthy bones and teeth of the baby. According to your age, include 1000mg-1300mg of calcium and 200IU of vitamin D.

DIET CAUTIONS

One should avoid all the items listed below. This may be harmful to you or your baby one or the other way.

  • Alcohol.
  • Caffeine.
  • Artificial sweeteners.
  • Seafood.
  • Tea. But herbal tea is safe. This is having ginger, orange peel, lemon balm, citrus peel.
