The renal calculi are known as kidney stones. The size and composition of the stones may vary from one to another. The formation of a stone is called as Urolithiasis or Nephrolithiasis. The word Urolithiasis is derived from the French word “urine” which, in turn, roots from the Latin “Urina” and the Greek word “ouron” stating urine and hence the urine stone. The word “Nephrolithiasis” is derived from the Greek word nephros meaning the kidney and lithos meaning stone, together meaning the Kidney Stones.
