Asthma, the disorder that makes people shiver. The name that is associated with breathlessness i.e. a feeling of shortness of breath along with acute and continuous cough attacks. Fennel and Anise Seeds
These seeds contain a chemical called alpha-pinene which is helpful in sporadic attacks of asthma and bronchitis. As such these seeds can be taken by asthma patients on a regular basis. Crush the seeds (one teaspoon each) coarsely with mortar or spoon and boil it with water to make a tea which can be consumed when warm. Along with this herbal tea, green or black tea is also helpful as tea, in its natural state, contains theophyline chemical which is also a very positive remedy for asthma and other breathing problems.
Ephedra
This is another effective herbal remedy for asthma. The powder of Ephedra can be taken in a dosage of 0.5 to 2.0 grams along with water. This herb clears the air passage and brings immediate relief from bronchitis and asthma attacks. Ephedra has a rich content of ephedrine and pseudeophidrene which relieves the symptoms of cold and cough. A word of caution here is that Ephedra should not be prescribed to persons with heart problems or high blood pressure as it alleviates the symptoms.
Turmeric
This is a very common remedy for getting relief from cough and asthma. Turmeric powder can be added to warm milk and can be drunk twice a day for maximum benefit. Turmeric acts as a disinfectant and cleans the congested passage.
Dhatura
Hard to believe, but this poisonous tree is a storehouse of medicinal value. The fruits and leaves of Dhatura can cure asthma and produce a sound sleep to the patients. These can be taken by way of smoking or inhaling the smoke from dried leaves.
Yerba Mate
This is another herb which has a very important characteristic of releasing corticosteroids resulting in reducing the inflammation. It also helps to relax and enlarge the bronchial passage which makes the air to pass freely.
Basil
The leaves of Basil are boiled in water and this concoction is every effective in controlling asthma. Basil plant as a whole is very important herbal and medical plant. Basil can also be mixed with honey, black pepper or rock salt to get relief from asthma and bronchitis.
Black Nightshade
This herb is an important remedy for asthma. The fruits as well as leaves of the plant offer medicinal value in asthma attacks and can be boiled in water to get relief.
