Top Home Remedies For Herpangina Pain
Herpangina is a virally induced infectious childhood disease in which children mostly suffer from fever and painful sores or ulcers in mouth, throat, lips and palate. They are caused by viral contamination that belong to entero virus family and most notable among them is Coxsackie virus, through contact with feces.
Generally it occurs in infants and small children but anyone can get affected by herpangina. It is a self-limited disease that causes lot of pain and discomfort. Due to pain children often refuse to eat and drink and develop the symptom of dehydration. Herpangina takes one or maximum two weeks to heal on its own. But some natural remedies can reduce pain and accelerate healing process.

Treatment for herpangina can be supportive only. For reducing pain ice cubes can be applied directly over the blisters three four times a day. It will also help in reducing the swelling and irritation caused by the ulcers.
Cinnamon And Honey
A mixture of cinnamon and honey can give soothing affect and relief from pain. Boil cinnamon stick (1 gm) in water. Let it cool down. Remove the cinnamon stick and add 1 tbsp honey and give your child to drink twice or thrice a day. Its antiseptic properties will accelerate healing.
For sore throat, chamomile tea is an excellent remedy. Sipping chamomile tea three or four times a day will soothe the throat and bring relief.
Lemon balm is another effective home care remedy for herpangina. It kills bacteria and brings a numbing effect. All you have to do is take 2 teaspoons of lemon balm leaves and steep them in water for at least 20 minutes. Cool the mixture and apply them on the blisters with help of cotton balls. Repeat the process two-three times to get quick relief from pain and irritation.
Garlic has antiviral and antibiotic properties and is very effective in curing sore throat pain and killing the virus. Garlic capsules are available in the market but children may have difficulty in swallowing them because of sore throat. So the best option is to take 2-3 cloves of garlic. Boil them in a cup of water. Allow it to cool down and mix a spoonful of honey in it. Sip two to three times to get relief from pain.
An effective herbal remedy used for treating sore throat is licorice root. But do not use this herb if you have high blood pressure. Prepare tea with licorice root and sip throughout the day for getting relief from sore throat.
Topical pain medications like viscous lidocaine can bring relief from pain. When pain and swelling reduces use saltwater mouthwash to treat the blisters. Add three to four spoons of salt in lukewarm water and rinse your mouth with it. Antiseptic property of salt helps to heal the blisters. For controlling fever and pain antipyretics like acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be taken. Deficiency of vitamins can slow the recovery. Patient should be given proper nutrition.
To avoid irritation in throat and mouth, remove acidic foods and liquid like fruits and fruit juice from the diet. Keep your child hydrated. He or she should drink plenty of water. You can give ice cream and chilled dairy product to your child to sooth pain.
