Abnormal Findings in Ultrasound
January 15, 2009
In everyday newspapers, you may have come across some incidents of medical misinterpretations. Even if you go for higher kind of medical tests, you may, sometimes, face some situations where these reports turn out to be false. When we do medical diagnosis tests, like the tests of the fetal of advanced months, they may give normal readings but there can be some abnormality.
It is true that medical science can have some awful and heart-breaking interpretations which in reality prove nothing but a farce. Although in pregnancy cases, there are several incidents in which we find that the child was found abnormal after birth but the defect was not detected in any of the ultrasound tests beforehand.
Here, we must admit that the ultra sound machines are not the perfect machines that can see everything inside the mother’s womb perfectly. It is just a tool and a tool can always make mistakes. We must have a mental preparedness to accept whatever happens whether good or bad.
If you have got a bad or disappointing report, do not lose your heart and try to keep cool and wait till the actual delivery is made. If it is really bad then you can not do anything. But if is results in something good then it would come to you as a pleasant surprise.
What can a person do when the report tells something unpleasant?
Possibly, the following are the duties of a person when he finds that the ultrasound report says something not good:
-Try to make enquiry about the possibility of the erroneous report.
-Try to consult the doctor attending your patient and ask him questions about the possibility of the report.
-You can also go for higher type of ultrasound, known as 3-D ultrasound, to verify the accuracy of the previous report.
-If any kind of abnormality is confirmed even in 3-D ultrasound, then consult the doctor and discuss over the possibility of making it a successful delivery or to discuss other options.
-You can take your patient to another ultrasound unit and get the test done again.
To avoid any extra mental pressure, avoid discussing your case with someone who is not known to you. He may get your problems enhanced. It may create more problems for you rather than reducing it.
