Amnesia, Memory Loss Problems

Amnesia is derived from a Greek word and is a condition of the memory which leads to memory loss. Amnesia is generally caused when the brain is inflicted with physical injury or ingested with a toxic substance which affects the brain. A trauma can also be the cause of the memory loss. Patients of amnesia find it difficult to absorb new information and/ or they can seldom remember anything learnt in the past. This problem of memory loss causes turmoil at workplace, school and social gatherings.
Anterograde Amnesia: Anterograde Amnesia is a form of amnesia where new events are not registered to the long term memory. Recent happenings and short term memory totally vanishes. Patients can remember events which happened before a trauma.
Retrograde Amnesia: It is exactly opposite to anterograde amnesia. Patients of reatrograde amnesia have difficulty in recalling events occurring after a trauma.
Transient Amnesia: It is rare type of amnesia and common among elderly people with vascular disease. It is characterized by the inability to form new memories with milder loss of past memories.
Traumatic Amnesia: A brain damage due to a hard blow to the head, can cause traumatic amnesia. Effects are brief loss of consciousness leading to coma.
Wernike- Korsakoff Amnesia: Alcohol abuse is the main culprit in this case for loss of memory. It is progressive and often accompanied by neurological problems.
Infantile Amnesia: People with infantile amnesia fail to recall events from as early as childhood memories.
There are some herbal remedies for the treatment of amnesia -:
Cumin seeds (jeera), black pepper (kali mirch), rosemary (rusmary),
sage (sefacuss), brahmi booti can help treat amnesia. Patients of amnesia should make it a point to stay away from tea, coffee, white flour, sugar, and flesh food
Amnesia may affect anyone, male or female. People with amnesia often find it difficult to imagine the future. The symptoms of amnesia are -:
o Memory loss
o Partial memory loss
o Total memory loss
o Permanent memory loss
o Temporary memory loss
Amnesia may temporary or permanent, partial or total. Types of amnesia include anterograde amnesia, retrograde amnesia, transient global amnesia, traumatic amnesia, Wernike- Karsakoff psychosis, Infantile amnesia.
