Nails, which protect our delicate finger tips, are subjected to a lot of wear and tear due to our daily chores like as washing clothes and utensils. As a result, nails are stripped of their protective cover.

Over time before we notice, the nail problems build up. But never overlook any problems of the nails. They are the indicators of the health of your fingers. Here are some common problems of your nails:

Discoloured Nails

One of the most recognizable of all nail problems. Nails may turn blue, yellow, green, red, or even purple partly or entirely in this case. Although this can be caused by a number of factors, the most common cause is poor blood circulation. Cardiac disease or trauma can cause this problem. If discoloration is a side effect of certain medication, your physician may recommend withdrawal of the medicines for a time being.

Physically you can deal with this by applying nail polish or artificial nails.

Eggshell Nails

In this case, the nails go so fragile that they are damaged by any slight pressure exerted on them. It is caused by a combination of poor diet and stress. Deprived of vitamins and minerals, the nails grow weak. You should take good care of them by trimming regularly. Additionally, a change in diet or medication might also be required.

Ingrown Nails

Ingrown nails are those nails that grow sideways instead of forwards. Thus, the nail grows right into the sides of the skin surrounding the nail, causing an intensely painful condition. Caused due to filing techniques and improper nail-cutting, ingrown nails mostly affect the toenails. It might also happen due to the habit of wearing improper footwear, which pushes the nail into the skin. A third reason is due to injury of the foot, surrounding the nail region.

Treatment of this condition is by removing the ingrown nail through pedicure or a surgery.
