Bedtime Snacks That Help You Sleep

A healthy body always depends upon three basic things, namely- diet, workout and rest i.e. sleep. Although all these ingredients are equally responsible for a good and sound sleep, but the last one seems to be the most important. A sound sleep always provides the required amount of rest to the human body, so it is very important for everybody to try to do the needful to get the sound sleep.

Different researches show that tryptophan, an amino acid component of many plant and animal proteins, is one of the best natural sedatives required for a sound sleep. Actually this tryptophan gives birth to serotonin, the neurotransmitter that is known for preparing conditions for feeling calm and sleepy. Scientifically this process is also helpful for the people suffering from insomnia as tryptophan combines with carbohydrate to prepare conditions for sleep even for those who suffer from insomnia.

To make the condition for a sound sleep, Serotonin-producing bedtime snacks are felt to be necessary. You must not take more that 200 calories and it must be taken at least 30 minutes before going to the bed. Some bedtime snacks advices are listed below. Try them and feel good:

According to the suggestion of the noted dieticians, the adult should take 6 to 8 oz of non-fat and flavored yoghurt topped with two tablespoons of low-fat granola cereals. You should also take sliced apples with 1 or 2 teaspoonfuls natural peanut butter. It will be also good for you to take 3 cups low-fat popcorn sprinkled with 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese.

Bedtime Snacks for Teens:

It is good for the teens to take one cup healthy cereal with skimmed milk which is good for sleep. They should also take low-fat granola bar along with scoop of vanilla or strawberry low-fat ice-cream.

Bedtime Snacks for Children:

It is advised that the little children should take half cup low-fat vanilla pudding which is good for sleep as well as for health. Half banana with 1 or 2 teaspoons of peanut butter is also suggested bedtime snacks for the little kids. At last they should take one cup skimmed milk with a bunch of grapes or other fruit.
