February 27, 2009

We love having hot soups and stews during winter months but with the change of season, especially by the end of February it’s high time for a change as even the tongue feels the need for something different. At this juncture you may try out casserole recipes which will satisfy your appetite and is easy to prepare at the same time. We would like to share with you some tips given by the one and only Emily Farris, who is the author of Casserole Crazy: Hot Stuff for Your Oven and also the founder of the website Casserole Crazy.com.

In the fifth and sixth decade of the last century quick dinners and canned food was immensely popular. But with time, this hype was lost and later on casseroles became popular. Canned ingredients are basically bland and tasteless and people preferred casseroles because they are fresh and flavored and can be made as easily. Since it is fresh, it is good for health too. But the Americans should get the point that casseroles are not meant just for mid western dinner tables and chicken potluck, but they can actually be moulded just in the manner you want it to be. Farris argues that it is as good as quilt, you can make it the way you want, either warm or cold, ugly or pretty.

The advantages of casseroles are many. Firstly, it is very economical. Also you can just take anything you like and bake them together into a delicious dish. You can start with pasta because it is the safest option. Make sure to mix it with soup, broth or any such binding agent. It is very quick and will help you to devote a little time in the kitchen as possible. It has also inspired very busy people to start cooking and impress the family with delicious dishes. It is almost a child’s play.
