There are thousands of children who are born daily with some critical disease of the bone marrow and severely impaired immune system. This is one of the most critical problems that have been puzzling the community of scientist for more than two decades.

However, now there is a solution and a quite astounding one. The solution is the cord blood. Most probably you have never heard of the cord blood. It is the blood that remains in the umbilical cord after it has been cut and separated from the baby’s body. The blood is generally discarded as the biological waste and its of no use.

However, now scientists have found out that the blood is rich in stem cells that have a variety of uses. You may be wondering what the uses of these stem cells are. They are one of the primary building blocks of our body and they are used for the treatment of side effects of chemotherapy, problems and defects in the bone marrow, and also impaired immunity system.

However, extensive research is being done and positive results have been found. In future, stem cells will be used to cure critical diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, spinal cord repair, tissue regeneration etc. Among them the most important is the cancer treatment. We all know that cancer is not exactly a disease but is caused by the hyperactive defective cell in the body. Stem cell may alone help in the destruction of these types of cells and not only that it will prevent such circumstances.

There have been extensive plans taken up by the scientists to create cord blood bank to help the future generation as well as the existing generation to get rid of malignant problems and to cure them effectively.
