Have apples in autumn! The season of “mellow fruitfulness” is around and the signs of this flowering season are everywhere. The days are cooler; the kids are back to school and the nights drawing in. Apples were the first fruits to be grown. There are a number of varieties grown. This fruit is not only eaten raw but this has found a home in all the savory dishes. This is the fast food that is healthy too as this contains a lot of fiber, with vitamin A and vitamin C.

Apples have excellent shelf life with a lot of health benefits, and these are great when it comes to cooking them. Pies, jams, cakes, sauces, stews and even meat dishes can be made with apples. The apples have a distinctive taste that stands out and also blends nicely with other flavors and foods.

Apple recipes work perfectly fine with goose, chicken, pork and also other autumn game found at that time of the year. In northern Europe the apples are cooked with fish. We should also bear in mind, the cider of the West Country, the apple brandy from France, the Calvados.

We can try these apple recipes, toffee apples, apple crumble, maple and apple cake upside down, pork chops with apple sauce, apple tarts with cream, apple and cider with chicken breasts.

The chicken breasts with cider are a palatable dish. You have to fry the chicken breasts for about three minutes and then add some more oil and then add the apple slices to that. Then you can pour the cider in and allow the whole thing to simmer for some minutes. The chicken is then added with additional salt and pepper to taste. This can be served with pasta, rice or with boiled potatoes and a dash of butter.
